Could I add some essential oils to mineral oil? Or is there something better? Also, any scents with aphrodisiac qualities? I'm looking to make a sexy massage oil for me and the boyfriend. :)

Re: simple massage oil recipe?
Mon, March 10, 2008 - 9:04 PMI've had good success with almond oil as a base, and you can add something like ylang ylang or patchouli to make it more sensual.

Re: simple massage oil recipe?
Mon, March 10, 2008 - 9:40 PMMineral oil is bad for your skin because it's usually petrolium based. Almond oil, grapeseed or jojoba are better options. -

Mon, March 10, 2008 - 9:41 PMAlso for the essential oils, I've heard that Lavender, vanilla or anything that smells like food is good.

Wed, March 12, 2008 - 12:51 PMWhere do you all get your almond oil and grape seed oil? is it expensive??? -

Re: simple massage oil recipe?
Wed, March 12, 2008 - 4:51 PMalmond isnt that expensive. grape seed oil is great for your skin, but in my opinion, it absorbs too quickly for massage. I get mine in health food stores. If you buy it in the food isle, not the massage isle its about half the price.

Tue, March 11, 2008 - 11:32 AMrose and jasmine are meant to be aphrodisiacs, but I like the scent of neroli and geranium. Experiment with a few drops in some little bottles as testers and see which recipe you like best!

Re: simple massage oil recipe?
Wed, March 12, 2008 - 10:07 AMif you dont have any body oils, you can even use olive oil. It works really well (I'd go with the light kind then add a few drops of oils to it so you dont smell like a salad). Sandalwood is great for men, not too feminine.

Re: simple massage oil recipe?
Wed, March 12, 2008 - 10:04 PMWould you be willing to drink Mineral Oil? Only use oils you'd be willing to swallow on your skin ('cause they're gonna get absorbed right into your bloodstream). So...no Johnson & Johnson Baby Oil either.
I use 6 parts Sweet Almond Oil, 1 part each Grapeseed Oil, Jojoba Oil, Avocado Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil, 2-4 00 capsules vitamin E oil (for preservative). When adding Essential Oils, don't exceed 30 drops total per 16oz finished massage oil.

Re: simple massage oil recipe?
Fri, May 2, 2008 - 2:53 PMI don't like oils for massage. Its a personal preference. They're messy and can leave stains. You can do the same essential oil mixing with massage lotions that provide the same sexy slippery feeling without leaving huge oil stains on your sheets. I like Soothing Touch. With shipping, a gallon is under $50. Because of its fairly high quality ingredients and texture, its perfect for those greasy massage nights as well as an everyday body lotion. Mixing with essential oils is great too, its seems to thin the lotion out a bit and give an even silkier feel.
But, oils will always have their slippery place in our boudoir. If you were desperate and looking for the cheapest solution safflower oil is supposed to be great for your skin (olive oil too, but then you smell piney). I've yet to try the safflower, but can attest to the yumminess of a bath with a bit of olive oil thrown in. Coconut is another uber sexy oil all on its own, but pricey and very VERY messy. Its got a mellow buttery smell that is delicious on its own and its edible. Almond, apricot kernel and grape seed are all good choices. NEVER NEVER use baby oil. I know its a staple for some, but throw that thing away. Besides the fact that its a petroleum product, its also very very low quality and no good for your skin.
As for sexy essential oil smells, ask him. Drag him down to your local health food store and get him to sniff around. Everyone has their own personal va va voom response to different smells. His might be hamburgers, difficult to put into an oil, but worth knowing all the same. My personal favorite is patuli and neroli together in equal parts (maybe more neroli). That smell just makes me swoon. His might be different or he might not have one at all. I'd avoid lavender if I were you. Its overused even though its a wonderful multi-tasker. -

Re: simple massage oil recipe?
Sat, May 3, 2008 - 8:30 PMA lot of natural food stores have oils suitable for massage in bulk, making them less expensive...to add to the list of good oils, I have always heard that sesame oil is the ayurveydic choice...anyone ever use it, or been massaged with sesame oil? I personally like almond oil, with a little lavendar or rose added. -

Re: simple massage oil recipe?
Sun, May 4, 2008 - 8:41 AMGood addition. Yup sesame oil is nice thinner oil. Its easy to use and absorbs fairly quickly. Its whats in the Neutrogena body oil.
