Hello,
Ok so my daughter is 10 yrs old with long hair. Sometimes she has some stinky hair. She's a kid, so I wash her hair with shampoo and conditioner. Good products, nice scent. Then after washing, I'm drying her hair and it still kinda smells. Kinda like a wet dog....you know, that wet hair smell.......
So what's going on? It's really weird and I hate the smell, especially since I know I just washed it! It just doesn't smell good. It's fine when it dries, the bad smell disappears and none of the product scent stays in her hair. Help! What's going on with her stinky hair and what can I do?

Re: stinky hair,.... but i washed it!!
Sun, May 31, 2009 - 4:34 PMShe's a kid, hormones are changing. Could be smells that are associated with that. We've all smelled adolescent boys... girls can have just as strong a smell - especially around puberty.
As long as you know she is clean. Gently educate her in the importance of deoderant and light perfumes, the joys of being female. If her hair is really think, lucky girl. She maybe should wash at least every two days, consider wearing it up on hot days.
If there is no medical problem, let it go, Mom. Be careful how you approach it with her, at that age, girls are very sensitive. -

Sun, May 31, 2009 - 11:46 PMIf her hair is oily, you can try lemon juice on it. If not, lemon juice is too strong. -

Re: stinky hair,.... but i washed it!!
Mon, June 1, 2009 - 2:19 PMRight.....I never thought of her hormones/puberty making her hair smell that way.......cuz it never did before. It makes sense too...her skin is already changing (very mild acne). The lemon juice is a good idea, I think she takes after her dad with the oily hair......and she's a blondie so lemon juice might be good. I have curly hair so I deal with dry hair all the time and oily hair never crossed my mind. ok...
Oh and the vinegar and water rinse is a good idea too....it just may be her scalp after all....thanks! I'll try all of that...... -

Re: stinky hair,.... but i washed it!!
Mon, June 1, 2009 - 11:50 PMTry a sulfur based shampoo.
Also a rinse with apple cider vinegar is nice, dilute it, of course.
It will smell of vinegar for a while, but then not. Its great for hair.
This isn't very uncommon, actually.

Tue, June 2, 2009 - 12:21 AMLemon juice on blonde hair is good. It will lighten and brighten it up. Maybe a light spray on conditioner to help comb the tangles out if needed.

Re: stinky hair,.... but i washed it!!
Thu, June 4, 2009 - 11:04 AMI know when I used to have really oily hair as an adolescent, it would get this weird smell when I washed it in really hot water, then I realized it was almost like the hot water was "cooking" the oils in my hair and scalp. The smell always went away as soon as it dried...
