Meaning cheap AND effective.
Seriously, I've spent tons on expensive body scrubs from all the prestigious cosmetic companies, only to feel like a total sucker after trying this!
I heard about it on a youtube video a few months ago, but only tried it this week, after running out of my last body scrub.
The original recipe used grape seed oil, but I decided to use olive oil, simply because it was at hand. And I honestly don't see how grape seed oil could've made my skin look even smoother than it got!
So here it is, with olive oil instead of grape seed oil: mix approx. half a cup of Epsom salt, half a cup of organic honey, and a little under half a cup of olive oil-doesn't have to be too precise, but I say don't put too much oil, because the salt and honey just stick together and the oil floats on top, so the oil is basically just to massage on your skin while you're scrubbing.
It smells deliciously sweet and olive oil feels great on the skin.
I washed with shower gel before and after the scrub, but I think it would be ok if you just left the olive oil on afterward and dab the skin gently with a towel, to dry off the water.
Olive oil gets into the skin and makes it softer than any body lotion could. But it depends on how easily you take feeling "oily" till morning(assuming you do this before going to bed).
However, even if you wash afterward, you won't be able to get it all out of your skin. I know I didn't. And my skin felt amazing the next day.
Anyway, it's the best! Trust me.

Thu, January 8, 2009 - 10:51 AMfrom another member of this tribe, forgive me for forgetting who: Miracle Whip. Slather it on-face, chest, shoulders, arms, legs, tush....anywhere you want your skin smoother. Leave on 10-20 minutes, don't touch ANYTHING, and scrub off with your regular soap in the shower.

Tue, May 5, 2009 - 9:06 PM"Petite"-- I don't see why you couldn't use sugar instead of salt, since commercial body scrubs are sold both ways. -

Re: Body Scrub fit for an economic crisis...
Fri, July 3, 2009 - 11:59 PMTry just a little olive oil in your tub, works wonders almond if you have it, also a little more astringent, not quite so oily seems to absorb into the skin very quickly, is coconut oil for combo skin. karonv.storeblogs.com Natural home made beauty recipes

Re: Body Scrub fit for an economic crisis...
Sun, January 18, 2009 - 3:34 AMHey there-
Just joined and am loving all the advice on here :-). Quick question, could/should you use this scrub on your face? I know I have seen all these products used in facial masks or scrubs, but wanted to check with you to be sure :-). -

Re: Body Scrub fit for an economic crisis...
Sun, January 18, 2009 - 2:19 PMfound a better one for the face: two tablespoons of honey mixed with one teaspoon of sweet almond oil and enough sugar to make it "grindy" enough to scrub your face.
That quantity is enough for about 5 or more scribs though. It's really great. Soothes and "tightens" the skin.

Re: Body Scrub fit for an economic crisis...
Wed, March 11, 2009 - 11:39 AMYep, this scrub is AMAZING. I started using it over 2 years ago because I developed Keratosis and NOTHING the doctors prescribed or suggested worked. Keratosis makes tiny red bumps that are scaley and itchy. I use the olive oil version. It is wonderful with fresh lavender. I made a holiday scrub with it and added ground cloves, cinnamon, and ginger. It was really nice because it had a warming sensation. Great on cold winter days! Oh, my Keratosis is long gone btw! -

Re: Body Scrub fit for an economic crisis...
Fri, March 13, 2009 - 11:22 AMI like sugar and Neutragena Light Seseame Oil. Olive oil smell sticks around too long, and I find that salt dries out my skin. This aftershower oil has been a lifesaver with my winter skin - it keeps it soft, moisturized and smelling 'clean'.
After a cleansing shower, I apply the oil to me and then pour sugar into my hand and pat onto the oil, then scrub LIGHTLY. Afterwards a nice warm shower to rinse, then pat dry. For those of you that have not tried a salt/sugar scrub, you CAN scrub too hard, so watch the pressure with which you scrub.

Thanx on the advive to scrub BEFORE shaving. I couldn't remember which came first. -

Re: Body Scrub fit for an economic crisis...
Fri, March 13, 2009 - 6:46 PMok, so what makes one prefer to scrub with sugar or salt ? Skin type? Ethnicity? Age? Astrological sign? -

Re: Body Scrub fit for an economic crisis...
Sat, March 14, 2009 - 8:55 PMI prefer sugar, simply because salt is too abrasive for my skin. And who knows-maybe I need the "sweetening up" -LOL!
I'm an Aries, by the way ; )

Re: Body Scrub fit for an economic crisis...
Wed, July 29, 2009 - 10:47 AMSounds great but for those with esp. High blood pressure watch out
A note of caution: Do not take an epsom salt bath if you have high blood pressure or a heart or kidney condition. And remember, the information above is intended for general reference purposes only. It is not a substitute for professional medical advice or a medical exam. Always seek the advice of your physician or other qualified health professional before starting any new treatment.
Remember if it goes on skin it goes into blood stream

Re: Body Scrub fit for an economic crisis...
Wed, July 29, 2009 - 3:18 PMI use a sugar and olive oil scrub (adding some essential oils for fragrance) and I love it. I noticed some of you recommend to shave after using a scrub, but doing so clogs my razor. I simply don't use this scrub on shaving days.
I have a question regarding using this scrub on my face and other areas prone to acne. I am convinced it will make me break out and am afraid to try washing my face with it. Can anyone with ACNE PRONE skin confirm that the olive oil scrub will not cause a break out?
