I have a big bottle of castor oil. I was wondering what I can do with it. Or even how to make homemade beauty stuff with it.

The best of what I know is to use it as a conditioner. It/s supposed to make hair stronger, thicker, shinier and darker. Indian women apparently use it a lot. Leave it in over night or for as long as you can and then wash it out.
Let us know what you think! ;-)

mix it with an equal part extra virgin olive oil and wash your face with it

there have been a few threads in here about using castor oil this way.

another thread suggested mixing the castor oil with another oil because it's pretty viscous and is difficult to work into the hair. maybe someone else can find that one for you...

Yeah, good tips..I was thinking of adding it to my shampoo. You know what's funny. Is that I have purchased this indian shampoo with arnica in it & it had a oder of castor oil. That's actually a good idea to add it to your hair. I'm gonna mix it in with my shampoo. I will try as a hair treatment with oilive oil/castor.

a bellydance teacher told me once to take a small bottle of castor oil, add a slice of lemon rind and masssage it into my lash line in the evenings. She said that she used to do it when she was dancing all the time and that she never had to wear mascara and people always thought that her lashes were fake because they bacame so thick, full and long... I have yet to try it, but its an idea.

Castor oil has toxic properties. You should do more research.

What is it actually made of?

Castor oil is a standard ingredient in commercially produced lipstick. Castor oil is a vegetable oil obtained from the castor bean. Ricin, a poison, is made from the waste “mash” produced when castor oil is made. Castor oil, though nasty as hell, is not toxic. It is sometimes used to ease constipation or induce vomiting. Larger amounts (like a whole bottle) can induce labor in near term pregnant women. Did I mention that it tastes TERRIBLE?

I haven't used Castor Oil for beauty treatments, but I use it for sinus infections, ear infections and cysts. My naturopath recommended I massage it into the skin over the affected area because it draws out toxins. Personally I hate the heavy feel of it on my skin, but it works for me so I do it.

I'm using two pre-made oils right now for my face, and noticed the one with a castor oil base made me break out, whereas the one with a peanut oil base did not.

Does anyone have any idea about the difference between standard-beauty remedy oils? When should I use peanut, when should I use olive, or almond, or jojoba?

              I'd love the help. Thanks.

peanut? really? hmmm...i would never use peanut oil as a topical, i must do more research on that one, but as far as the others go, in my own experience jojoba is excellent for hair, and almond is good for the skin while olive is good for both.

I am intrigued with that hair (and lash) treatment. I have a little bottle of it which I got to treat a super painful plugged milk duct when I was nursing - worked like a charm.

I'm intrigued by the lash thing, too--my lashes and eyebrows have always been a bit lighter and sparser than I'd like. I don't like mascara much, though--just for performance--so something that makes them darker all the time would be better.

I've been putting it on my top lash line and eyebrows with a Q-tip, but I'm not consistent...I'm wondering how long it takes to see results? It certainly conditions them nicely, and I *think* my eyebrows have been regrowing hair, but that could be the normal indication I need to tweeze a bit. Can't tell.

If you broke out then you have a beauty product that does not have a therapeutic castor oil but a heat treated oil - not cool.
Castor oil does not block your pores if it is truly cold pressed. I have used Palm'Hydra for about 1 year now and would not give it up for anything!

There is a toxic substance in the husk of the castor beans. It can contaminate the oil ONLY if the oil is not cold pressed according to European standards. The oil in the US says not to take internally and has expiration dates and weird "certification" nonsense (more talk than fact) ... I would not trust those. There is castor oil cold pressed and solvent free from a Canadian source and there is an organic oil too so everyone can be happy. Palma Christi Gold is the organic one. No risks with it or the regular oil Palma Christi l'Originelle. FYI

Castor oil used internally will flush you out and clean your digestive track.
And is good for inflamed joints. Ayurveda.

katrina: lash tinting is a great answer to the mascara performance issue, my lashes are very blond and this has saved me the best part is dark lashes w/ morning bed head and not a smudge to be reckoned with... no good home remedy yet but I love it!

Oh! Almost everything!! Look for castor oil from India though - it is the ONLY one that is not sticky when you use it. The company has an organic oil too Palma Christi Gold. It stops pain and inflamation, it is great on a paper cut and callouses. It is even a natural lubricant ... yes ladies you can put it there too. Help you grow long healthy nails and lashes .... But you don't want the sticky stuff - trust me!!
