Re: hemorrhoids from pregnancy
Tue, June 10, 2008 - 9:49 AMhemorrhoids are a thrombosed vein. So any treatment used for varicose veins in your leg would probably help there, too. I don't know any herbal treatments per se, but avoiding constipation and don't sit on the toilet for long time is important. When you 'strain' at moving your bowels (the same way you got the bugger - straining to give birth) that will make it worse again. I know a medical / invasive way to treat a varicose vein is to inject it with a saline solution - I don't know if that would work for a hemoroid. If it continues to bleed and give you problems, a surgeon will want to ligate and remove it. Prep H is a vasoconstricter - that's why it works. If it shrinks and doesn't get aggravated, then more invasive treatment won't be needed. -

Re: hemorrhoids from pregnancy
Tue, June 10, 2008 - 6:55 PMAlong with the other recommendations, use really soft toilet paper -- it does make a difference in your comfort level. And apply some calendula cream. That helped me a lot after I had my son. -

Re: hemorrhoids from pregnancy
Sat, June 21, 2008 - 9:10 PMInteresting suggestions here :-) For temporary relief, witch hazel on a cotton pad helped me. After receiving herbalist training WAY after the fact of my pregnancies, I know now they are totally caused by constipation and eating the wrong foods, not just by the weight of the baby. However, doing a hardcore detox is not a comforting thought! So, I would add in foods that help cleanse but are nourishing too, to strengthen the walls of your veins too - up your amount of fresh fruit and veggies (greens are awesome, and if you have fresh comfrey to juice with these, all the better!) and lower amount of unnatural sugars (use stevia, raw honey or agave juice), flours (get sprouted grains instead), meats - and try to eliminate all dairy and coffee/tea except safe herbal types. Try using turmeric on your food (the yellow stuff in curry powder hehe), and integrate taking burdock and/or yellow dock root, they are awesome. Also, Nettle and Red Raspberry tea are so wonderful for pregnancy - they ought to be food for every mom! Make sure you are drinking at least 2 quarts of good water (distilled or spring) to wash toxins away, and stay away from sodas and carbonated drinks because they actually decrease your body's nutrition! If constipation is still an issue, try adding a bit of Cascara Sagrada bark to your regimen, but go easy since it works really well! Psyllium I had found is too harsh as well and you can bind yourself up more if the water isn't going in (think gallons hehe). I also learned as a temporary relief about white oak bark tea, as it is very astringent instead of witch hazel. I think you CAN reverse them, but that will be up to you! Keep us posted!

Re: hemorrhoids from pregnancy
Sun, June 22, 2008 - 6:42 AMThe lay midwife that I used to take classes from gave us a tip for immediate relief, it's certainly not a cure, but in may help. She suggests that you fill a condom with water and freeze it. Then sit on it when the inflammation is really bothering you. Although I've never had this problem, the condom thing is one of those tips that kind of sticks with you for all times, you know? -

Re: hemorrhoids from pregnancy
Wed, June 25, 2008 - 5:03 AMwow!! thank you for the awesome info : ) Raspberry tea the last 2 months of my pregnancy was mostly what i drank!! + after pregnancy nettle tea + mama boosters...ate lots of sprouts during pregnancy as well...but this is where is screwed up, i had a chocolate chip cookie binge that was incredible!!
my friend sent me this awesome info via email, for whoever else has hemorroids this is awesome, although my hemorroids don't itch (except after sex) and don't bleed.
hemorroids metaphysical background is: "DEADLINES"
Do you feel that you do not have enough time to do all that you want to do?
Here are some ways of getting rid of the roids naturally. I got this
from an organic medicine alternative website.
Fresh pulp aloe vera gel applied to anus takes away pain much like
aspirin. Prevention goes a long way when it comes to hemorrhoids and
once you've gotten rid of the initial onset, keep them from coming back
by changing your diet. Take 1-2 tablespoons of flaxseed oil daily, drink
plenty of liquids, and foods like alfalfa sprouts, blackstrap molasses,
dark green leafy vegetables as well as foods rich in dietary fiber like
beets, Brazil nuts, psyllium seed, green beans, carrots, apples, and
broccoli.
Relieving Hemorrhoids with Natural Remedies
Here are a variety of natural remedies that you can use to relief from
your hemorrhoids. You can try one until you find one that works for you.
Remember that every person is different and you need to find the remedy
that works for you.
Cranberry Poultice
For relief of hemorrhoids within an hour, here what you can Do:
* Blend 3-4 tablespoons of raw cranberries
* Wrap a tablespoon of this blend or so in some cheesecloth
* Push it up against your anus and keep it there with some tight
underwear.
* After an hour or so replace it with a new batch of berries and cloth.
Apply these berries twice and do it the next day if necessary.
Geranium-Lavender essential oil mixture
Combine 2-3 drops of lavender to one or two drops of Geranium with one
ounce of almond oil. Place this combination in a dark brown bottle with
a dropper top. After shaking this combination, use a few drops on your
fingers and apply it directly on the skin surrounding your anus.
Garlic and Onions
Garlic and onions can be used as a suppository. Using them will help to
strengthen the veins, kill bacteria in that area, and reduce
inflammation.
Peel a small garlic or onion. Reduce the size of the onion to a garlic
clove size. Just before bed, push either garlic or onion just slightly
into your rectum and not to far. Your regular bowel movement will remove
them in the morning.
Do not use this method if your hemorrhoids have been bleeding or are
bleeding. Wait for this area to heal.
Liquid Lecithin
Apply liquid lecithin to the hemorrhoids 1 to 2 times a day. Do this for
2-3 days. Continue its use until you get the relief you want from your
hemorrhoid condition.
Ice Pack
To get quick relief from hemorrhoid pain and swelling prepare an ice
pack as follows:
Make your own ice pack by putting ice cubes or crushed ice into a
plastic bag. Wrap the plastic bag with a thin piece of cloth. Place the
ice pack into the hemorrhoid area.
You can also use the slim commercial ice gels pack. Cover it with a thin
piece of cloth and place it into the hemorrhoid area.
Apply the ice pack for 15-20 minutes and then rest for 10-15 minutes.
Then, continue applying the ice pack for another 15-20 minutes. Do this
for 2-3 hours then take a rest for 2- 3 hours and then start again.
Don't put ice or ice gel pack directly on your skin without wrapping it
with a cloth. This is to avoid ice burning the skin.
Lemon Juice
You can make a lemon drink that can help you strengthen capillaries and
blood vessels walls. Here's how to do it:
* Use an organic lemon since you will be using the outer peel
* Slice the lemon into 4 parts - don't peel the lemon. Use the whole
lemon
* Boil the lemon in distilled water for 10 minutes in a glass pot with a
cover.
* After it cools, drink one cup a day.
This is a powerful drink because the lemon's bioflavonoids and Vitamin C
will go into the boiling liquid. When you drink this you will get many
bioflavonoids that you cannot get in any capsule or pill.
There you have it, six different hemorrhoid remedies that can give you
relief from pain and inflammation.
