I am making some oil and EO roll on blends and am looking for a natural preservative. Would grapefruit seed extract be a good choice or would it taint the smell too much?

Re: preservative to stop rancid oil?
Thu, April 16, 2009 - 9:06 AMthis is a good question! It makes me wonder if beeswax has natural preservative qualities? Because I make my own solid bars of moisturing butters, and sometimes I'll find that the oil I use in the formula will turn rancid before I have a chance to mix another batch, but I've never had an already mixed bar smell bad (with beeswax in it) - even after a year or more of sitting around. -

Sat, April 18, 2009 - 3:47 PMI'm not sure on the beeswax, but honey is..... I don't know how much you would have to use, though. But for oils, I'd go for the benzoin. Orris root is a preservative but a LOT of people are allergic to it.
