Oils for your Face

topic posted Thu, November 29, 2007 - 8:04 AM by  kt
I use oil on my face, my skin is so dry. I am using apricot kernel oil, but want to make a blend that is finer/lighter (tho I don't have a problem with apricot oil being heavy.) Bobby Brown is marketing a face oil, that is really light, but it is scented and I dont' trust the purity of their ingrediants.

Ay suggestions for an oil blend?

  • As with so many things, "your mileage may vary"(YMMV for short)as far as facial oils. There are quite a few good natural oils - it is a matter of choosing one that is suitable for your skin type - if one is very oily for instance some oils are too heavy, but for drier skin other oils are good.
For awhile now, at night I've been using my own combo barrier cream made of 60% unrefined shea butter, and the rest extra-virgin olive oil and jojoba oil, with a bit of veg. glycerin in the mix to add a humectant element. Since you mention that your skin is dry, this combo might work for you, as well as rosehip oil, even though you mention you might want something lighter. Best way to apply oils is when the skin is still damp from washing up, so you seal in the moisture. With a barrier-type of balm, it is best to use a pea-sized amount, emulsified in your hands to melt it, and then apply to the face. This way one doesn't have to use as much, and it spreads out in a thinner layer making it lighter on the skin.
    Hope this helps!
  • I use a Mexican brand called Jaloma and they sell many pure oils, such as olive oil, castor oil, etc. For my face and hair I use "Acieita 3" which is olive-almond-castor mix.

It is available at Walgreen's here in California for under $2.00 for a 4 oz bottle. Lasts a long time for such a great price.

The little plastic bottle is in the personal grooming section, but sectioned off with Mexican products. Gotta love California!

Or buy it online from Walgreens: www.walgreens.com/store/product.jsp

  • I use coconut oil. I use it to remove my make up - even my mascara, it doesn't irritate the eyes. I also use it as a moisterizer on my face/ body and as a codnitioner. I put it on my hair, especially at the ends.
I also use it with salt or sugar to exfoliate. I lightly cover my face with cocnut oil, then put salt on my fingers and massage it. I know it works with sugar as well, but so far I used salt.

This oil is light and absorbs quickly.
