I use oil on my face, my skin is so dry. I am using apricot kernel oil, but want to make a blend that is finer/lighter (tho I don't have a problem with apricot oil being heavy.) Bobby Brown is marketing a face oil, that is really light, but it is scented and I dont' trust the purity of their ingrediants.
Ay suggestions for an oil blend?

Re: Oils for your Face

I use grape seed oil when I want a light oil. Otherwise, I swear by organic, unrefined coconut oil.
Jojoba oil is also a good choice.
I know several women who prefer argan oil for light moisture. It's a bit hard to find (and expensive) yet seems to give good results.
Personally, I would avoid oils marketed by cosmetic companies. They are way overpriced, and may contain scents or other ingredients that don't really add much value. Blend your own oils, whenever possible.

Re: Oils for your Face
12/05I actually love the Dr. Hauschka day oil, ingredients are clean and it has a lot more stuff in it than I would have the patience to blend myself, a bit pricey but a bottle lasts about 6 -7 months for me.

Re: Oils for your Face
12/10I used Elizabeth Arden facial oil capsules on my face for a while. They made my skin amazing. I don't have any idea what was in them, and I switched to jojoba oil to save $$$. Its not the same. I am glad to try some of these other oils that were recommended. -

12/12I recently bought some grapeseed oil from this massage supply store in San Francisco.
It was really inexpensive and I've been using it on my face and body with good results.

Re: Oils for your Face
12/20Personally, I do not think Aveda products are expensive and at around $20. one bottle of Beauifying lasts me about a year. No added scents and very little unneccesary ingredients in any Aveda products.

Re: Oils for your Face
12/12As with so many things, "your mileage may vary"(YMMV for short)as far as facial oils. There are quite a few good natural oils - it is a matter of choosing one that is suitable for your skin type - if one is very oily for instance some oils are too heavy, but for drier skin other oils are good.
For awhile now, at night I've been using my own combo barrier cream made of 60% unrefined shea butter, and the rest extra-virgin olive oil and jojoba oil, with a bit of veg. glycerin in the mix to add a humectant element. Since you mention that your skin is dry, this combo might work for you, as well as rosehip oil, even though you mention you might want something lighter. Best way to apply oils is when the skin is still damp from washing up, so you seal in the moisture. With a barrier-type of balm, it is best to use a pea-sized amount, emulsified in your hands to melt it, and then apply to the face. This way one doesn't have to use as much, and it spreads out in a thinner layer making it lighter on the skin.
Hope this helps!

Re: Oils for your Face
12/17I use a Mexican brand called Jaloma and they sell many pure oils, such as olive oil, castor oil, etc. For my face and hair I use "Acieita 3" which is olive-almond-castor mix.
It is available at Walgreen's here in California for under $2.00 for a 4 oz bottle. Lasts a long time for such a great price.
The little plastic bottle is in the personal grooming section, but sectioned off with Mexican products. Gotta love California!
Or buy it online from Walgreens: www.walgreens.com/store/product.jsp

Re: Oils for your Face
01/12Where can you buy castor oil, I've been looking out for it for a while and haven't seen it anywhere - I wanted to make a make-up remover with it? :| Is it a behind the counter thing or something?
I like jojoba personally, not too oily for my oily/normal combo skin -

Re: Oils for your Face
01/13Castor oil is available in drugstores, it's still used as a laxative too.

Re: Oils for your Face
08/14I use coconut oil. I use it to remove my make up - even my mascara, it doesn't irritate the eyes. I also use it as a moisterizer on my face/ body and as a codnitioner. I put it on my hair, especially at the ends.
I also use it with salt or sugar to exfoliate. I lightly cover my face with cocnut oil, then put salt on my fingers and massage it. I know it works with sugar as well, but so far I used salt.
This oil is light and absorbs quickly.
