Re: Shiny hair?
Mon, June 9, 2008 - 9:20 AMDon't use or even over-use shampoo, eat well, don't abuse your body. Don't take notice of those special conditioners/products that are advertised, most of them are just as temporary, expensive and useless as each other! I like coconut oil mixed equally with cocoa butter for making my hair shine...you only need a tiny bit :)

Re: Shiny hair?
Mon, June 9, 2008 - 10:18 AMI stopped using shampoo. I cleanse my scalp with shikakai powder and condition hair with a white vinegar rinse. I added avocados to my diet, which includes 7-12 servings fruits/veggies per day. A parsley rinse makes my brunette hair ridiculously shiny--not sure how it would work for blondes. -

Re: Shiny hair?
Mon, June 9, 2008 - 7:35 PMoohhh, how do you make the parsley rinse? do you just steep the parsley in hot water? -

Re: Shiny hair?
Mon, June 9, 2008 - 8:53 PMI boil parsley leaves for about ten minutes, uncovered, so that some water boils off and the remaining water gets really concentrated. Strain it, let it cool, and you're good to go!

Re: Shiny hair?
Wed, June 11, 2008 - 4:26 PMOoh. Y'know...I always use cold, diluted apple cider vinegar, but since I dye my hair red, it might help keep some color to rinse with red wine vinegar. Have you found it affects your color at all? -

Re: Shiny hair?
Wed, June 11, 2008 - 10:52 PMI've heard of rinsing with Red Zinger tea (although I'm sure any hibiscus-based tea would do) to enhance highlights in red hair.

Re: Shiny hair?
Wed, June 11, 2008 - 4:29 PMWell, what kind of hair do you have? I mean, I'd recommend somewhat different treatment for straight hair than for curly hair.
But yeah...cold water rinses (with a couple TB of apple cider vinegar) after cleaning help. I second the recommendation to cut back on shampoos that have SLS in them (the foaming agent--strips the hair, dries it out, makes it dull), and to avoid silicone (temporarily makes it shiny, but builds up and makes hair dull). If you don't use as much shampoo, you don't need as much product to fix what damage the shampoo does...hair eventually becomes healthier and shinier.

Re: Shiny hair?
Wed, June 11, 2008 - 5:57 PMThis is a good question.
I like to put coconut oil in my hair. BUT I find that the only thing I know of that will wash it out so it is not greasy is shampoo. Which may defeat the purpose but it does still work.
I am open to other suggestions though? -

Re: Shiny hair?
Thu, June 19, 2008 - 8:43 AMOnce a month, I use a moisture treatment on my hair that gives it incredible body and shine.
Mix one part honey to two parts conditioner. Shake it up well to blend it. Apply and let sit for as long as you can (anywhere from the length of a shower to 8 hours. An hour works well.) If going for a long treatment, cover your hair with a rain/shower cap or a plastic bag to help keep the dripping to a minimum. Rinse once done and then enjoy!
