Reddening

I have a tendency to get really red, regardless of exposure to the sun.. It's kind of hard to explain, but the redness doesn't seem to come from irritation, but rather from within. It's pretty strange. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew of ways to stop skin from reddening, anything is much appreciated. Thanks and blessings!

Think it could be rosacea? I have become more red as the years have gone by, and more red on some days compared to thers. Is it just in your face??

It does sound like rosacea. Do certain foods or drinks bring it on? Red wine or coffee, spicy foods? Stress?

Here's a excerpt from the Mayo clinic

    www.mayoclinic.com/health/r...a/DS00308

You may actually want to go to a dermatologist to get a diagnosis. They may prescribe something for you.

As far as home remedies go, taking burdock may be very helpful.

you might want to see what Ayrevadic remedies might help and what type you are. You might be feeding it the wrong things to bring it out.

I checked out the info on rosacea (thanks), but it isn't just my face, I kind of tend to be "red", and I do notice certain foods increase it like spiciy food, coffee, etc (all of which I'm totally addicted to!) as well as stress. I've checked out ayurveda and I'm pure "pitta", so I'm sure that has a lot to do with it! I've started taking aloe juice and doing foot massages with coconut oil, and within a couple days I've already seen some improvement! I guess I'll have to keep with it and see what happens... Thanks to all for the info! Peace and blessings

Do you just go red at certain times - like when eating said foods etc?

Maybe you just have a sensitive blush reaction - I know if I drink wine I get very rosy, and my MIL is the same with spicy food.

I'm typical english rose in colouring, so when I blush I get very pink, and it can spread right across my chest and shoulders. Also when I exercise I get especially red. And when I'm warm. And stressed.... You get the idea?

But definitely worth checking out with your doc if it's worrying you...

YES! That's exactly what happens: in general, hot foods (energetically speaking, not in terms in flavor) and drinks like red wine, coffee, etc. I also notice it with exercise. I'm not really worried about it, mostly it's an aesthetic concern and I'm wondering what I can do to lessen it, which I think above all has to do with changing habits and balancing an excess of "heat" or yang within. I'm not really sure if smearing things on my skin will help much...

I just settle for being pink and rosy ;o)

I think you have to accept it in terms of when you exercise etc - but that comes with the activity. I've never tried balancing from within, but it's a good idea.

I do use a mineral foundation with a green concealer underneath on my face to counter it a little sometimes, which works well and doesn't harm my skin, but if I go really pink, my ears and neck etc give me anyways!

i have this same problem. i am always red. especially when exercising. it's almost embarrassing. because i think i look like a clown!!! the only way to really not be red is to avoid the things that make you so.

a couple things i have heard but am not sure work yet is. after you take your shower, run cold water over your body it's supposed to cause like lipids or something underneath the skin to remain buried in your skin... instead of rising which apparently creates redness? ... i dunno.

and there is always the green tinted makeup, which evens out red skin tones. i am sure there are several companies that make this. i know that's not a natural remedy. but if it's just your face you're worried about for in public, that's a suggestion.

i try to wash my face with only cold water sometimes. or i pat it with a cold washcloth several times a day. this helps to some extent!

hope you find something useful out of this!

Thanks to all for the advice! I've been avoiding doing "reddening" things, and also in general trying to cool down, physically and emotionally, and I've noticed a HUGE difference! Aloe juice, cool showers, cooling shitalli breath and backbend yoga postures have been helping a lot... I guess I have a pretty dominant fire element that needs to cool down...

Try adding calendula extract to your skin oil, maybe just a plain calendula/ jojoba blend.

It is very calming to th skin.

Also try: witch hazel, horse chestnut.

You can get these all as extracts and add them to skin oils.

I like to get mine at vitacost. but oyu can also find them at most health food stores.

          Peace :)

Dietary allergies may also cause redness / flushing.

I am allergic to yeast, but I didn't know it for years. Minimizing my bread intake helped keep my skin form itching and blotching up!

Calendula! I hadn't thought of it... I'll go look for some! Also horse chestnut seems like a great idea (I just googled it and found out it's CastaƱa de indias, which is used here a lot for blood pressure and diabetes), I assume it helps soothe or calm down veins or blood flow? Thanks very much for the advice!
