I use aloe vera. Personally, I get good results with both fresh and the bottled variety.
A question for you....
Where do you experience your razor burn? With any shaving, or only the shaving of certain areas?
Also, how often do you shave? I've been told by several women in the adult industry that shaving every day is too irritating, and that they are much less prone to razor burn when limiting their shaving to every other day or so.

Stumbled across this recently...
"Preventing Red Bumps
In addition to the occasional nicks and cuts incurred during shaving, it isn't unusual to also have an aftermath of uncomfortable and unattractive razor bumps (red, inflamed blemishes), particularly along the bikini line. Hair follicles are attached to oil glands, and both are attached to nerve endings. Shaving tends to irritate the skin, the hair follicle, and the oil gland, causing a rash-like breakout of annoying bumps. Ingrown hairs can also be a dilemma. Ingrown hairs are curly, wiry hairs that turn, curl, and dig into the adjacent skin as they grow out, or hairs that grow back in the wrong direction, causing a bump that can become infected.
As widespread a beauty problem as this can be, for women and men alike, the lack of products addressing the issue is surprising. The only non-irritating product I know of that is aimed specifically at reducing or preventing these red bumps is my Skin Relief Treatment. This product contains stabilized aspirin, which is an effective topical agent that can alleviate most forms of skin irritation. It also contains willowherb and green tea, two potent anti-irritants that further help normalize and heal skin. You can also try a home remedy of taking one or two aspirins, a quarter cup of tap or distilled water, and perhaps a touch of glycerin (which can be purchased at a drugstore; just ask your pharmacist). The drawback to creating this yourself is guessing at the proportions, but with a little experimenting you should be able to produce an interesting toner for ingrown hairs and for areas that get inflamed after shaving, including the face (for men), bikini line, legs, and underarms. You can apply your moisturizer after the aspirin solution is absorbed into the skin."

Re: razor burn!
Mon, December 3, 2007 - 5:07 PMAloe can cause an allergic reaction in a few people. I can't use shampoo with it at all. It irritates my scalp something fierce. It's next to impossible to find a shave cream or skin product without it either. If you can't use aloe, like me, I would suggest shaving with something like KY jelly. It sounds strange, I know, but it's water based and does lube up the skin. Vegetable glycerin works too. I used to use a product called "Koochi" to shave with (love the name-LOL!)-not just on the delicate parts, but on my legs also. It's good, but oily, so I quit using it. It's expensive too. There are a few bump treatments you can get that contain salycilic acid. I get one called BumpRx at Sally's Beauty Supply, but the recipe found in the link posted sounds reasonable to try. If anybody else here has a surefire way to prevent razor bumps and rash (besides not shaving of course), I'd love to hear it. I have sensitive "Irish" skin. Pasty white, but turns an angry red when irritated.

Re: razor burn!
Mon, January 7, 2008 - 6:12 AMher "stabilized aspirin solution" is basically the formulation for Tendskin and there are many many recipes for making this at a fraction of the cost on the Internet. just google "homeade Tendskin". the recipe (i have some on my shelf for razor burn of the bikini area) is witch hazel, alcohol, and aspirin. it stinks but works.
i also use almond oil after shaving to avoid razor burn

Re: razor burn!
Mon, December 3, 2007 - 8:11 PMI used to have a worse problem until I found a great razor! I use the Venus now and (like the above post) you barely need any pressure (and change the blades as soon as they start to go). Also, exfoliation helps me. Normally I use Dove sensitive skin soap to shave but if I go through a sensitive spell I'll use conditioner as a lube. If it's possible, maybe try soaking in a bath before you shave. Kinda time consuming, but it might soften things up enough to make a difference.
I do get irritated under my arms so I got an epilator for that. A lady I work with has used an epilator for years and she barely needs to touch up anymore. She said the underarm hair is almost completely gone and only needs to touch up every few weeks or so. May be a long term option worth considering. That's not "homemade" but when I think of the waste I'll save on that program it makes me a little happy ;) -

Re: razor burn!
Mon, December 3, 2007 - 9:02 PMI use an epilator under the arms, too. The first time I ever used it, it almost made me cry. LOL. My armpits looked awful. But it was smooth sailing after that. I use the epilator on other parts too sometimes, but I get ingrown hairs with it at times. But I get them with razors, too, so I can't really win. I've tried using conditioner, too, for shaving. Something in some of them irritates the heck out of me too, sometimes. I haven't narrowed down what it is yet. Most shaving creams give me the same reaction. As I get older, my skin gets more and more irritable. If I can just hold out til menopause, I'll be ok. ; ) Supposedly, your body hair thins after that and you don't need to shave as much anyway. Silver linings..... -

Re: razor burn!
Tue, December 4, 2007 - 9:56 AMTry "Tend skin". It's expensive, but works. I have not had a single burn since I started using it. Apply immediately after shower, and once a day after for a couple days. Good for after waxing too. Not home made, but works, so yea!!! -

Re: razor burn!
Wed, January 2, 2008 - 8:48 PMmake sure you are switching out your razor every couple of weeks. they blunt even after a couple uses.
exfoliate on the days you are not shaving. and shave in the shower, so they steam and hot water can open the follicles much better for you. then when you are done and out of the shower, put a cold towel on the area you just shaved, followed by a light touch of lavender in a grapeseed oil base. -

Re: razor burn!
Thu, January 3, 2008 - 6:15 PMi used to have lots of trouble with razor burn, until i started exfoliating every day, especially before shaving. i use something gentle, like sugar and coconut oil. then i shave, and follow with a thick layer of coconut oil, while still in the shower. i don't know if others recommend exfoliating before shaving but it seemed to help me...

okay since this IS the homeade beauty remedy tribe...
Mon, January 7, 2008 - 7:18 AMhere is the recipe for the homeade version of tendskin: (and way cheap might i add)
solution 1:
18 tablets uncoated aspirin, crushed
5 oz. rubbing alcohol
combine.
solution 2:
8 tablets uncoated aspirin, crushed
2.5 oz. witch hazel
combine.
combine the two solutions. the aspirin will settle a bit, so shake it before use. apply to the bikini area to prevent ingrowns.
it's important to mix the two solutions separately otherwise the aspirin setteles out immediately.

Re: razor burn!
Mon, January 7, 2008 - 4:29 PMI say that shaving is the devil. I know it is painless but I have such bad razor burn (pits, bikini) that it would be a week before I could shave again. What's the point in that?
Now, I epilate. Yes it is painful but only at first and I avoid ingrown hairs completely if I am semi good about mosturizing and exfoliating in the shower every couple of days. Check it out. Hair stays gone for quite some time. -

Re: razor burn!
Tue, January 8, 2008 - 7:14 PMI do epilate from time to time. I mostly do my armpits-not too much trouble with ingrowns there. It doesn't last 4 to 6 weeks on me. More like a few days. And I get fierce ingrown hairs on my legs and bikink area. I exfoliate, use lotion, dry brush....It helps, but doesn't eliminate the problem. I think I'll try the home mede tendskin recipe. I'll agree that shaving is a devil. Hair removal in general is a real devil. Wish I had the guts to go "natural"-LOL. I don't think I could stand myself though. ; ) -

Wed, January 30, 2008 - 11:33 PMIt seems I keep replying to posts with this same product, but my husband has discovered my Avalon Organics milk face wash for shaving irritaion. He washes his face with it after he shaves. It has been the only thing we found that softens his extra sensitive skin. -

Re: razor burn!
Fri, March 28, 2008 - 9:44 PMbath instead of shower when shaving your legs. Let your legs soak in the water for at least 5 minutes before shaving greatly reduces razor burn. If don't like to bath just put enough water in the base of the shower to cover you soak your legs , drain the water before you shave and then shower off.
