wondering if anyone has any secrets - how to keep
hair extra strong and anything that helps the process
along...
my hair is growing normally, but i would love to speed it up
a bit...I know eating well is the most important, which I do,
but if anyone knows of specific foods that really help -
salmon I know is a great one, and avocados...but avocados
turn my stomach (I think the oil is very strong or something.)
just wondering if there's a secret ingredient...been a long time
since I wore my hair long. thank you in advance for any
comments.

Re: growing out hair
Tue, June 3, 2008 - 9:03 PMI've been growing it out since November. I think the antioxidants have helped, grapeseed, raspberry, VitE, multivitamins.

Re: growing out hair
Wed, June 4, 2008 - 12:42 AMFor me, NETTLE (internal and external)! Love that stuff! If you have it around, also rosemary and sage (or if you are blond, you may want to use Chamomile). Yarrow will help restore anyone's natural haircolor. I also mix some comfrey leaves in my red raspberry/nettle tea that I drink at least a couple times a day. I am regrowing my hair after a surgery that caused me a major hormone imbalance - if this is the case for any of you, you may want to add the hormone-balancing herb of choice to your mix - black cohosh (this was the one I used), wild yam, or don quai (angelica). Those are the three that usually one of those will work (I dowsed to see which one for me). -

Re: growing out hair
Thu, June 5, 2008 - 7:23 PMThe best way to describe it is by reading Walt Woods' online book
www.lettertorobin.org
Good beginning info there.

Re: growing out hair
Fri, June 6, 2008 - 4:37 PMthanks so much everyone...i will try the herbs and pre-natals -
;) I used to drink a lot of teas,
and don't lately, but thinking back my hair was a lot stronger - there
was a tea with cranberries, pomegranate, and liquorice or
something (this is 10 years ago, you'll have to excuse my memory -
it was nyc and from a weird little Chinese market with tons of
great stuff.) I had no idea that tea might have been the reason my
hair was so strong back then.
thanks again!

Re: growing out hair
Sun, June 8, 2008 - 1:00 AMi would say comb your hair twice daily being careful not to scratch your skull. the chinese actually have a device that gently pokes the scalp with needles and you massage it all around and it stimulates hair growth, maybe you could look for one of those. i would also reccomending you put your hair in a ponytail while you sleep, so that it does not get damaged during the night. i also heard not to comb hair or put it in a ponytail while its soaking wet as you could easily break strands this way. i personally take an electric shaver to the ends of my hair about once a month, to me it is like clipping my nails or exfoliating my face, i think it needs to be done fairly often. i take GNC's ultra mega green vitamins, and it really helps my whole body to balance out, especially my skin, hair, and nails. -

Re: growing out hair
Sun, August 3, 2008 - 5:30 PMmassaging the scalp with bay leaf (laurel) oil is excellent for strengthening the roots and promoting growth. Also tumeric is meant to stimulate hair growth, but I haven't tried this :) -

Re: growing out hair
Tue, August 5, 2008 - 8:49 PMI tend to stay away from GNC stores and frequent the little health food stores instead. The Green vits are my fav and I generally add them to smoothies in the mornings along w all my other vits. -

Re: growing out hair
Tue, August 12, 2008 - 1:11 AMthe trace mineral silica is the most important nutrient for hair, skin, and nails. it is the pre-cursor to collagen production.
you can find silica in tablet, liquid, or capsule form at your local health food store. since i started taking it, ive seen two to three inches of hair growth when before my hair never, ever grew.
(my nails also shot out and thickened up.) -
