It is called tonsil stones. Little yellowish balls that cling to the tonsils (cryptes of tonsils) and smell so discusting! I use to get them only when I got sick because I'd get bad sore throats, but since the summer I get it on a regular basis. I was able to tell by the change of the taste in my mouth and breath, even after I'd brush my teeth really well.
I did a little research on what this nastiness is, just want to get rid of it!! These things hide in my tonsils and I have to use Qtips to search for them and remove them. It is so bad at times it makes the food I eat not taste as good, I can taste the tonsil stones ontop of the food :@{
Please help with how I can get rid of this.

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Mon, November 14, 2005 - 3:31 PMhave you tried salt water gargle?
i notice i get them when i am not drinking enough water or am dealing with post nasal drip allergies.
do you smoke?
smoking also makes them happen in me.
they are totally gross. -

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Mon, November 14, 2005 - 4:36 PMI do smoke and have realized it probably contributes to them. The mucus and all as well *Yuck*!
I removed a couple today on the left side of my throat and noticed my nasal passage felt clearer than the right.
I'll try the gargle. Problem is they are hidden within the tonsils. I'll gargle over a period of time and see what happens. -

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Mon, November 14, 2005 - 5:55 PMtry some ginger infused salt gargle as well - helps with the taste in the mouth... I HATE that taste. i always know I'm getting sick when I can taste that...taste. *shudder*... -

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Mon, November 14, 2005 - 9:20 PMPerhaps a tea tree oil and sea salt rinse with warm water. Might be a gag cocktail though...I can't imagine trying to remove anything from my tonsil area with a q-tip, I would gag for sure...Luckily I had my tonsils removed when I was 3.
Best of luck to you! -

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Tue, November 15, 2005 - 10:35 AMThanks for everyone's comments. Removed more last night (YUCK!!) Sometimes they are actually visible, like when I use to get sick and get them with my sore throats and all it is hard not to miss. But now a days they are hidden. I usually sort of tilt or turn my head to the side to see that particular side I want to remove them from. Usually if I just stick the Qtip in that little spot on the tonsil I can smell the foulness so I know it's there. I just lift or push back the skin back there that overlaps the tonsil and you can see the nooks and cranys of the tonsils and the nasty stuff clogged in them. I guess I've become some what of a pro at doing this. I don't gag, I think that would come more from sticking something directly down the back of your throat as appose to to the side of the mouth. You do have to be careful not to just go poking at the tonisls of course or I'm sure you can get a nasty infection. I've often become worried about that, but I just try to be careful and just look for the white stuff which can be easy to spot amongst the dark red color of the inside of your mouth. I soaked a Qtip in Listerine last night and dabbed it in the area I removed the tonsil stones from, on top of gargling with it.
Ok, any way where can I pick up some Betadine? The salt water and ginger gargle sound good too. Thanks for the link Jenn, just want to find something that is easy to make or easy to pick up in the store. -

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Tue, November 15, 2005 - 1:01 PMthe salt water one would be easy
get some sea salt
get some water (hot will melt it easier - 1cup water/1tsp/or so of salt)
mix
use
if you got some ginger root you could slice it
throw some slices in a mug
zap it for a couple minutes in the microwave w/water
add the salt and let it steep.
then after it cools throw it in a bottle for use.
i dont know about shelf life though.

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Sun, November 20, 2005 - 3:15 PMAlso try alternating a sage tea gargle with the salt water. Sage will dry out the throat. When you gargle, try changing the shape of your throat by saying " Aaaa, Eeee, Iiii, Oooo, Uuuu." It really works to get the water down in there. Also, drink the sage tea. White sage is the trick. Hope it gets better. -

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Mon, November 21, 2005 - 11:11 PMAs the Dentist site suggests, don't look into tonsil removal. I was told that my tonsils had simply "rotted off" (sorry) after too many throat infections. I am left with a series of caves along the sides of my throat where these little revolting chunks dwell. Keeping sinus drainage under control is my key strategy. I've noticed that my left side is worse, probably b/c I sleep on that side more often. I think gargling helps, if only in keeping my mind at peace over the halitosis!
btw, there are months when they temporarily close up. I consider that an improvement, however small. -

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Mon, February 20, 2006 - 12:23 PMHey Rach, I feel your pain.
The truth be told, once you reach the point where your tonsils collect enough bacteria that you can taste it over your food, it's the beginning of the end.
I had my tonsils removed when I was 23 and it is the BEST thing I've ever done for myself.
I'm not a fan of surgery but the whole experience wasn't bad at all. I went home the same day, was able to talk / drink / eat and healed very fast. (@ 1 week) That was 4 years ago I haven't even had a sore throat since!!!
Find a good ENT surgeon who will excise the whole tonsil rather than the common and crappy clamp and jerk method.
Good luck. -

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Mon, February 20, 2006 - 3:46 PMHey everyone. I have figured it is the excess smoking that does not help and the build up of mucus which is caused by smoking. I have these white bastards as one put it for a while now. Close to a year. I do the Q-tip removal which has become a habbit but they keep coming back. I had though of tonsil removal also because I would get bAd sore throats when sick. I did either hear or read somewhere on here to skip that for different safety reasons. Soooooo, it is not too bad right now and I can tolerate it however, when it gets so bad that I can taste it over my food which it has then serious action needs to be taken. Manly doing the salt water gargle right now. Have not tried the other remedies, and the best of them all, quiting smoking! So once that happens I will keep you posted as to how I'm doing. -

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Sat, February 25, 2006 - 2:54 PMWhite lumps or anything white on tonsils is called strep throat. Its contagious so take care of it right away. Gargle with anything anyone above mentionted, but thats strep throat. -
-
Re: White lumps on tonsils
Mon, February 27, 2006 - 11:44 AMnot all white spots on tonsils are strep. believe it or not, it can also be gonorhea. (sorry, kinda yucky, my general practitioner told me that. )
but I think these folks are talking about something different than white spots from a throat infection. this sounds like a cronic bacterial problem. though it would help to get s throat culture from your doctor just to be sure.
If the salt water doesn't do it fast enough, try a diluted hydrogen peroxide gargle. dilute 1/1 with water. gets that great bubbly action on the white spots. -
-
Re: White lumps on tonsils
Fri, April 14, 2006 - 10:50 AMI also get these gross things. However, I want to respond to this post about the white spot being strep or gonorrea. I few days ago I found a huge white spot on my tonsil, gross I know. Went to the doctor who said either strep or mono. Strep test negative, mono positive. Mono is really common, especially for my age- 22 and 95% of the population gets mono or some form of the epstein-barr virus by 35. Just throwing this out there so if you have a white spot, sore throat and feel tired/achy go to the doctor. -

Mon, May 1, 2006 - 10:21 PMI had these first when I was a kid and an Osteopath painted them with some sort of silver. I have had them many times as an adult and also used the QTips drenched in whatever I had around at the time... salt water, Hydrogen peroxide, lemon juice, listerine to name a few. I haven't had a problem since I gave up tobacco. I STILL have to say to myself (it's only been just over a year) , "I'd rather be a non-smoker than have that cigarette right now." -

Although, I don't smoke, drink, have allergies, (and its defenitely not strep throat-had it once, I'd know for sure) or strange dietary habits. Re: White lumps on tonsils
Mon, April 3, 2006 - 4:39 PMI've had this problem before. Popped up out of nowhere and stuck around for almost 3 years before magically disappearing. I think it happened for me when my hormones and ph started to change.
Yes, it's totally icky. The official term is "cryptic tonsillitis" even though a sore throat isn't necessarily a symptom.
I talked to 2 dentists about it:
There is a minor surgery where they clean out the holes in your tonsils where this stuff lives then essentially seal them shut with a laser. I wouldn't recommend it unless you've talked to an oral surgeon about it first though.
There are also some prescription mouthwashes that supposedly help to kill the bacteria that contributes to this problem.
My dentist recommended getting one of those plastic syringe things they give you when you get your wisdom teeth out to clean the holes. Do a warm salt water solution and actually inject it into the tonsil holes. Totally makes you gag but it got more of the gunk out than I could by using the cuticle scissors (yeah, don't freak out about that. they totally worked for digging that stuff out. Qtips are too big to fit in the holes). I tried that for about a week and it hasn't recurred for nearly a year now.
Good luck! -

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Thu, April 6, 2006 - 9:09 PMYuck, I get the same thing. I don't usually talk about it with people because it's completely disgusting. I have holes in my right tonsil, and lately it's been hurting, too. It's even making my ear hurt on that side. I think I infected the tonsil when poking it to get the nasty white chunks out. So gross. So I think I will try to see an ENT specialist, because normal doctors usually just say, "yeah, you have strange tonsils" and don't know anything about it.
Glad to share this with some strangers. :-) Thanks,
Jenny

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Sun, April 16, 2006 - 2:06 PMWhen these first appeared for me (non-smoker, healthy diet etc) it was diagnosed as Epstein Barr virus, so common that nearly 95 percent of everyone has been infected by age 35. It has been really difficult to get rid of, but I have managed a few times to be free of them for a few months, up to 6 months, at a time. Biggest thing is to watch your health and diet (sugar, white flour etc), reduce stress, rest alot, do several gentle detoxes - for candida, for parasites, etc. I used black walnut hull extract, olive leaf extract, lots of vitamin B and anything that boosts immune response - all inside cures versus the outside cures that may address the smelly spots, which is as usual symptom management as opposed to cure which is what I am after. It's a viral infection, probably contagious when active so don't kiss anyone. I still struggle with them and go through lots of routes for cure, when I win one day I will post what worked.

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Sun, April 23, 2006 - 9:39 AMI'm 47 and noticed them when I was about 12. I never new what they were. I've had strepth and mono in my early 20's, and that white was different than the tonsil stones as you call them.
I think the white smelly things are the immune system attacking virus or bacteria. White corpusuls sluffing off at the tonsils. I remove them with a very blunt spoon handle by applying a little pressure.

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Tue, May 2, 2006 - 7:41 PMOK - been reading this link for a while and am wondering if it's the same thing a friend of mine has happening. This person is the most healthy, athletic, non-smoker, etc... I know and this person has this happen. It's like small bits of "whatever" in the cavities/holes of the tonsils. They take them out by a syringe on occassion - not sure how often. I don't think it's due to diet, smoking, or anything like that, but maybe a genetic make-up of the tonsil area. ???? again, not sure, but when I told this person about this tribe link - they will be checking it out and I'll be able to post more about their specific condition. Anyone else out there like this? (i.e. - great diet , no processed foods, vegs, non-smoker, etc.....)? I don't think it's directly on the tonsils, but in a hole or cavity that may collect "stuff". ??? -
-
Re: White lumps on tonsils
Tue, May 2, 2006 - 7:44 PMOh - forgot to mention that this person also snorts salt water almost on a daily basis for allergies and gargles hydrogen peroxide on a daily basis also. So this is not eliminating this particular problem. The theory is that it is a food "collection".. not sure though. -

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Thu, May 4, 2006 - 1:39 AMhow odd to come across this thread 2 days after I looked this very topic up myself. I'm sorry you all suffer with these nasty things too but it is kind of reassuring.
I eat well and don't smoke, but had chronic tonsillitis as a child, am prone to strep and have been having allergies of late and with my allergies these things seem to be sprouting up daily. I hate it and am so self-conscious about my breath that I'm popping mints like mad. . I seem to get these things more when it is allergy season. Anyone else seem to have them worse with allergies?
I just want to make it stop. *sigh* Salt water gargles it will be. :) -

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Fri, May 5, 2006 - 5:18 AMThere seems to be very good information shared on this topic in this area
Here is my experience:
I am a smoker, i used to have chronic tonsilltis, strep throat, sore thorats every 3-4 months. After the last time my tonsils got inflamed. I did a throat culture and i was diagnosed as having Beta Haemolytic Streptococci infection. The infection is because of mucus flowing to the throat that causes lymphoid follicles and white patches and spots, which causes bad breath among other things. These have a serial regressive radiating affect and also may cause rhematic fever and sever joint pain, back pain.
My ENT recommended i remove my tonsils, this was 2 weeks ago. I did the surgery after 2 days. It was a laser tonsillectomy, the pain was relatively light. and i was discharged quickly.
The real pain will start to hit on day 6 after the operation, mainly the ear will hurt as a result of chewing. I DON'T recommend painkillers, as these are habit forming and really don't help that much. Just keep chewing (bubblegum) and drink LOTS of water. Soft mushy food is ok (broth, noodles). I was on combination of anitbiotics of any peripheral infection (as a cautionary) also.
Overall, i am a bit glad i took the surgery, i am on a nasal spray (twice a day), that really helps me sleep better (breathe better), no more snoring and my wife is a lot more relieved ! :)
I live and work in a polluted area, Don't know how many of you have experience working in a foundry. But its a real pain, allergies wise. This nasal spray is quite good.
I don't wish to prove a point or anything, but its been two weeks since i touched a cigarette , i tried smoking one today, as i had a tough issue at work, hated the taste of the tobacco and threw it away. Result of which, got my good ol' sweet tooth back, and its candy bar time!
Its just been 2 weeks and is too soon to tell, but I breathe a lot better. My current medication is Supradyn, Betadine Solution (very effective!) gargling, Nasal spray. twice a day.

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Thu, May 11, 2006 - 9:50 AM"What are tonsil stones?
The tonsils usually appear like small, dimpled golf balls set on either side of the back of the throat. Children with large tonsils and deep crypts often get food particles trapped in there. Because saliva contains digestive enzymes, trapped food begins to break down. Particularly, the starch or carbohydrate part of the food melts away, leaving firmer, harder remains of food in the tonsils. This does not look like the food that went into the mouth.
There is more to these hard lumps than just food. The tonsils also trap other mouth debris such as bacteria and old cells from the surface of the mouth's lining. Some of these cells contain small amounts of keratin, the same substance found in fingernails and rhinoceros horns. Whatever the nature of the debris, it is then attacked by white blood cells. The aftermath of this battle leaves the crevices of the tonsil strewn with hardened remains.
Most people swallow this material without ever noticing it, while it is still tiny. In those whose tonsils are large, however, the particles can lodge in the deep crypts, where they continue to grow. The enlarging lumps are called calculi of the tonsil, or tonsilloliths (tonsil stones). These stones are most common during adolescence.
Microscopic studies of these tonsilloliths have shown them to contain a combination of food particles, bacteria, oral debris, and white blood cells in a concentrically laminated pattern -- rather like a pearl. Usually they are small gritty particles found in the center of soft, cheesy flecks. Sometimes, however, they become quite large, appearing as rough, yellow or gray, round stones. At times they reach an extraordinary size. Affected people usually have a history of repeated attacks of tonsillitis in earlier years.

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Mon, May 22, 2006 - 8:09 PMunreal. I can't even SAY how many times over the last 5 years I have gone to the Doctor's office, only to be made to feel like I am just 'imagining' that these white spots are something worse than what they are. All that I am ever told, is that I have tonsilitis. Well THANK YOU! No kidding? When I have a sore throat, feel like I might have strep, do ya think I really need to be told that I have tonisllitis?? LOL It is pretty annoying. MY throat problems are definitely related to my allergies, which didn't even start bugging me until my mid 20's. (I'm nmd 30's now)
I had one Doc say it was probably lodged food (the lovely tonsil stones). I have one right now, and found this thread via google. I am glad that I did, because from the sounds of it, the only thing that is going to help me, is gargling.
Has anyone ever had a doc, that could truly understand or could explain what the white spots are? I had a spot about 1 month ago, and now, this week, I have it again in the exact same spot. I can't stand the feel of it back there- it makes me crazy- and I too am a q-tip poker! I thought I was going to die reading the other posts! Q- tips don't really seem to work, and I feel like I am causing more harm than help by sticking cotton down my throat.
And in response to poor diet etc... I am a personal trainer/ competitive bodybuilder and when I am 'in season' I couldn't possibly eat any healthier- I take my vitamins, I eat a very healthy diet rich in fiber, complex carbohydrates and lean protein sources as well as a large variety of vegetables. Not a smoker or drinker.... So, what gives then? I haven't competed for a few years, but still, my diet is quite varied and 90% very healthy food. I would have to say it is the anatomy of the tonsils for sure. Mine just have all those annoying divets for the white spots to form... I once had a doc say i have ulcerated tonsils... that's pleasant too, isn't it?!?!
WISHING they'd just go away!!!!!!!!! -

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Mon, May 22, 2006 - 9:01 PMI was chronic for several years in my late teens/early 20s. I used to megadose vitamin C and take Rx antibotics. I begged them to take them out, but I was too old. Major changes in lifestyle, diet, environment finally stopped it. I have hardly taken antibiotics in years, switched to herbals in the late 80s, but just had a deviated septum fixed. The tonsils might still be the culprit of the snoring, we'll know in a few months, but even though it's been over 15 years since I've had a swollen throat with white spots, I'd say yank 'em sooner than later. They ain't doin' you any good. -
-
Re: White lumps on tonsils
Mon, May 22, 2006 - 9:17 PMI was miserable before I had mine out. I constantly had a sore, swollen throat. I remember not even being able to swallow the antibiotic capsules they prescribed. It was pretty nasty for a few days after - even 15 is kind of old to have them out. But I'm so glad I did. Do I still get sore throats? Sure - but they don't swell up like that. They're not constant. And I will never forget the horrible taste I always had in my mouth before they yanked 'em. -

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Wed, July 26, 2006 - 4:19 AMBest "diagnosis" yet! I used to ge those little whitish yellowish chunks too. When you mash them they STINK! I figured they were chunks of bacterial waste when I first saw them. By the way, that is the purpose of your tonsils. Your tonsils are actually there for the very purpose of filtering out bacteria in your body. When you have your tonsils removed you are actually removing this filter that your body needs to rid itself of toxins. You may seem to feel better and not have as many sore throats in the short term, but you are in danger of being sicker later on in life as these toxins build up in your body and cannot be dischrged through the tonsil glands. You NEED your tonsils. Research as proven that people who have had their tonsils removed are indeed more prone to illness later in life. Everything in your body is there for a reason. The Bible says we are "fearfully and wonderfully made".

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Wed, January 16, 2008 - 6:38 PMRemoving the most immediate visable set of tonsils is not going to cripple your immune system in any way. Your tonsils and adenoids are a complex system that are composed of several sets of glands. Removing the bad tissue is sometimes the best way to deal with this problem! -

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Thu, March 6, 2008 - 3:07 PMThe very best way to get rid of these “chunks” is to get a small syringe (no needle) called a Monoject, try you dentist. Fill it with water, and flush the “chunks” out.

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Mon, October 2, 2006 - 10:18 PMThis sounds pretty right on, though I've never had tonsilitis. I do however, have HUGE tonsils, with HUGE crevices that seem to be stretching as a pick at them. So, I'm no doctor, but I'm pretty sure these things just have to do with how you're tonsils are shaped. I looked at my boyfriend's, and they were so small I couldn't believe it. Guess I'm doomed unless I have them out, which I'm not really up for doing.

Re: White lumps on tonsils

I have one right now along with a really bad sinus headace. I also suffer from general anxiety disorder so I was freaking myself out thinking it was some kind of throat cancer! I also smoke and hope to quite with the patch in the next couple of weeks!! I am so glad I found this site, thank you guy's for shareing!
Oh the doctors do not know anything; they all think I was a hypocondreact (sp..) At least now I know.

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Tue, June 13, 2006 - 3:53 AMSometimes I recognize the stinkiness on other peoples breath, and I know what is causing it, but I had no idea that so many people suffered from it. I've been getting mine since I was a teen, and have been a smoker. I too like to pick them off but sometimes get carried away and make the bastards bleed!
Just last week I could taste them so bad but couldn't see them, so I assumed it was rotten teeth. I must try the salt water I can feel one brewing as I type, the little stink bastard.

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Thu, July 27, 2006 - 9:38 PMOk, I just found this thread, and I love how we all have different ideas, treatments, etc... :) I was told (have had these for about 20 years now) that I have chronic tonsillitis, but that my tonsils aren't bad enough to need to come out. My doctor at the time was all about letting the body's processes work - at the time I was pissed because I wanted my tonsils out so I could get out of school and have a bowl of doctor-mandated ice cream. I don't (hope I don't!) have bad breath because of them, and my "stones" are fairly small; about the size of small seed pearls in a bracelet or necklace. Every once in a while, one comes loose and I'll can just spit it out. They always appear to be fairly soft squishy off-white nasty-smelling things. What this means, I dunno. But I've never taken them out or rinsed them out, they always come out on their own... and I've never had a doctor recommend that I should remove them. I'm slightly prone to sore throats and very prone to strep throat, but usually a salt-water gargle, hot tea, and some extra sleep fix me pretty quickly - or meds if it's strep and persistent.
As I said, what this all means, I haven't the faintest notion. :) But there's my two cents on the tonsil thang. Good luck to all of us! -

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Thu, August 3, 2006 - 5:37 AMI had mono/tonsillitis when I was 18 and after that my tonsils have remained large and pretty pockmarked. In my 20s, I would get the tonsil stones and I associated them with not getting enough sleep/getting sick. I'd take an asprin (remember that ancient drug?) and get some rest and the stones wouldn't come back after I removed them.
Then, in my late 30s, my doc told me it was just food build up. (I noticed it more after eating pasta and other mushy things.) In any event, I still figure it's a warning sign that I'm not taking care of myself and I act accordingly.
I do notice that only one or two crevices get the stones, so maybe there is some merit in the laser treatment for chronic sufferers. But, it couldn't hurt to treat yourself better, in any event. Good luck!

Mon, December 31, 2007 - 7:42 AMHave you had any response to this??
I have them too - They are nasty - What can be done other than tonsilectomy?

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Mon, December 31, 2007 - 9:25 AMI used to get these all the time, too! Glad to see I'm not alone. My husband makes me feel like a freak at times, but he had his tonsils out as a child so he doesn't have to deal with it. I never thought about food particles getting trapped. Yuck! I thought it was just post-nasal drip. I used a neti pot a lot last spring to rinse my nasal passages with salt-water which seemed to help. Plus, the landscape of my throat seems to have changed so the lumps don't form anymore.

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Fri, January 4, 2008 - 3:53 PMI used to have them somewhat frequently a long time ago, and I just removed them by poking them out using my fingers. It was gross needless to say, but when I saw a doc before, he told me it was something common and that I needn't worry. If I'm not mistaken he told me to leave them at that time, and they'll come out by themselves, but of course, you can't really expect to follow that. So I used to pick and prode them out haha. I don't remember hurting myself in that process. But anyway, that was all a long time ago.
I've realized later that they happen with me when my body feels very heaty, and the "slits" as I call them, reveal themselves. I don't know whether the heatiness thing has any scientific basis, but it's just one of those things that I feel and see from my bodily reactions. So, whenever I realize that the slits are enlarged, even without any food particles stuck in them, I'm careful to balance the heatiness of my body, primarily by consuming more water and other cooling food if available.
My mom used to think it was odd how I could push my tongue down without the aid of any apparatus, and take the stuff out. She's barely able to see the back of her throat, but I'm able to see all the way down hahah. She thinks that it may be common, and that I was the "rare case" who had to always "dig out her throat" when I was younger haha. They can be very, very tiny at times (probably even ignored by others if they never really opened their mouths to see deep inside), so it was not really a major problem although there were times when they were larger and far disgusting. But as I said, I feel this is a sign of the body screaming out, "Hey, COOL me down, PLEASE!!!!!!", and I comply right away:)
I'm rather impressed to find a thread dedicated to this. -

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Fri, January 4, 2008 - 6:46 PMI think tonsils are a carry over from when people were some sort of amphibious creature ! ; )
I know getting body parts removed is an unpopular recomendation, however if you have rotting debris hiding in crevices you can't fish out you may want to seek out a good dr !
I had reocurring pnumonia & such as a child, my tonsils were removed & then I was seldom ill. Now I think they have partially grown back, which is odd but I'm told not uncommon.
-thats just my 2 cents

they're called tonsiloliths...
Sun, January 6, 2008 - 8:11 PM
...and they can be removed by using an ,otherwise unused, medicine dropper to suck them out, or (are you ready for this) you can scoop them out with the 'u-turn' end of a CLEAN bobby pin. Thanks to Wikipedia for that little bit of information. -

Re: they're called tonsiloliths...
Thu, January 10, 2008 - 3:48 AMI beleive this problem is genetic, my father told me that he had this same problem when he was about 16 and he kept getting white stuff stuck in his tonsils. He would use a q-tip to take them out, he referred to it like popping a zit.. lol. Anyways the problem kept coming back for him so the doctor told him he would have to get them removed(his tonsils). He is now 40 and ever since he had them out he hasnt had any problems since.
I am 18 years old and i am getting these white things stuck in my tonsils aswell and they smell bad and taste gross when they come out. It causes my throat to get soar when they get really bad. I went to the doctors and she told me that i shouldnt worry and that i should jsut gargle with water or mouth wash. She told me that the "white stuff" was just food particles getting trapped in there and that my tonsils were too big to get them removed. the "white stuff" keeps coming back however and i am now going to see another doctor and i hope to have them removed as soon as possible. Especially since i have heard that the older you are the more it hurts when they are taken out. I strongly beleive that i will not have any more problems with my tonsils if i just get them removed. -

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Wed, January 16, 2008 - 6:35 PMI used to get tonsillitis three to four times a year. After more than a dozen years of this I was finally able to get them removed. Before I had them removed I had noticed the same little foul smelling/tasting nodules on my tonsils. Pretty much what happens is your tonsils and adenoids usually work together to fight infections. When they get really infected (and it sounds like yours have) they can become a target that is vulnerable to new infections rather than the helping to fight them. My only solution was to have them removed, and I have never regretted it at all. My health and immunity has improved drastically since then. I am not sick for three to four months out of the year anymore, and I no longer have the irritation of permanently swollen glands. Unfortunately I have never heard of or found a home remedy for this that was as effective as simply having them removed. It was an in/out procedure, and I had a very bad sore throat for a week but it was NOTHING compared to the relief I felt knowing it was the last time I would have to endure this again! They gave me percoset for the pain as I am allergic to morphine. Either way, surgery or not, I hope you are able to find a viable solution that works for you and your health! Cheers!

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Sun, March 9, 2008 - 10:29 PMThe problem is definately not genetic.
There is a chinese formula for this called anti-phlogistic pills
You need to use lymph cleaners like cleavers juice.

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Sun, March 30, 2008 - 6:08 AMIt is great to see a topic I can relate too. I have had these nasty things on and off for years. I am always thinking I have bad breath because of these buggers. I am actually paranoid all the time. Especially when I can taste them in my throat. The ONLY time I didn't get them at all was when I was pregnant. I don't know if it was because of diet or hormones, etc. I drank tons and tons of water and juices and ate very well. I can't say I have a bad diet of eating junk...I do eat healthy but I don't eat as frequently as I did when I was pregnant and I have a bad habit of not drinking enough fluids. I can go all day with just one or two glasses of something. So, maybe that has something to do with it and all the fluids flush them out?
Anyhoo, I will try asking the dentist about cleaning them. I never even thought of asking the dentist...I have just gone to the doctor. That wasn't much help.

Tue, April 1, 2008 - 6:05 PMI have been taking one drop of Thieves oil on my toothbrush when I brush my teeth and then gargling with the excess. WOW. It is highly antiseptic, anti-bacterial stuff! I've not had any peridontal bleeding... Though I use an electric brush as well.
Anyway, I thought of you when I gargled with the Thieves.

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Fri, October 9, 2009 - 3:59 AMDo not eat dairy foods for 2-4 weeks (NO MILK,cheese or anything with dairy milk in it).
after 4 weeks of this program you should notice that your tonsil stones have completely gone, you will not see any tonsil stones anymore,if you continue to NOT EATE ANY DAIRY PRODUCTS ANYMORE
Becz The calcium minerals in the dairy product you eat will go straight to your tonsils and form the tonsil stone again

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Fri, October 9, 2009 - 4:31 AMClearly, if one doesn't stop smoking, they will not become more managable. So stop smoking. The expensive prescription to stop that -
is nothing, when one realizes how many years you will keep for doing it. Don't drink booze very often either, and make sure you have lots of just h2o, and drink lots of kombucha tea daily. Gargle with it while you drink it.
the best reason not to smoke, is your face becomes full of water and the lines become more gentle. kombucha also moisturizes the skin from the inside out, and make it smooth and clear. -

Re: White lumps on tonsils
Sat, December 12, 2009 - 1:27 AMI've actually found a pretty decent site with videos and a half-way decent suggestion. The remedy suggested there seemed to work for me. It's been two weeks since I started the solution and I've been tonsil stone free for almost a week and a half now.
At least they don't ask you to buy an ebook! Crazy people!
Oh yeah in case you guys are interested the site is : www.whitestuffontonsils.com
