Hello I just joined. I was interested in learning about natural homemade remedies. I have a question. Does anyone know how to get rid of brown spots on the face? I think they are age spots. They are just starting to come out and very light but I would like to prevent them from becoming more prominent. I am Hispanic and olive complected. Can anyone help with any info? I would appreciate it.

i was wondering how effective using tea would be as a facial mist?
for e.g. i bought today a beautifying skin purifying tea including:
red clover, nettle leaves, dandelion leaves, burdock root, chamomile, lemon balm, lemon peel and natural lemon flavour.
would it work on the outside like it would on the inside?

thanks!

I love face mists when I'm hot or in dry weather and I've used several
store bought varieties- evian (plain water in a spray can- insanity I know!) aveda's carribean therapy, and Jane iredales balance spray (my favorite, which contains myrrh and white tea) but I can't stand shelling out for water
in a fancy bottle anymore! Can anyone suggest a recipe for
a homemade spray for my mostly oily skin?

White lumps on tonsils

It is called tonsil stones. Little yellowish balls that cling to the tonsils (cryptes of tonsils) and smell so discusting! I use to get them only when I got sick because I'd get bad sore throats, but since the summer I get it on a regular basis. I was able to tell by the change of the taste in my mouth and breath, even after I'd brush my teeth really well.

I did a little research on what this nastiness is, just want to get rid of it!! These things hide in my tonsils and I have to use Qtips to search for them and remove them. It is so bad at times it makes the food I eat not taste as good, I can taste the tonsil stones ontop of the food :@{

Please help with how I can get rid of this.

Body Scrub fit for an economic crisis...

Meaning cheap AND effective.

Seriously, I've spent tons on expensive body scrubs from all the prestigious cosmetic companies, only to feel like a total sucker after trying this!

I heard about it on a youtube video a few months ago, but only tried it this week, after running out of my last body scrub.

The original recipe used grape seed oil, but I decided to use olive oil, simply because it was at hand. And I honestly don't see how grape seed oil could've made my skin look even smoother than it got!

So here it is, with olive oil instead of grape seed oil: mix approx. half a cup of Epsom salt, half a cup of organic honey, and a little under half a cup of olive oil-doesn't have to be too precise, but I say don't put too much oil, because the salt and honey just stick together and the oil floats on top, so the oil is basically just to massage on your skin while you're scrubbing.
It smells deliciously sweet and olive oil feels great on the skin.

I washed with shower gel before and after the scrub, but I think it would be ok if you just left the olive oil on afterward and dab the skin gently with a towel, to dry off the water.
Olive oil gets into the skin and makes it softer than any body lotion could. But it depends on how easily you take feeling "oily" till morning(assuming you do this before going to bed).
However, even if you wash afterward, you won't be able to get it all out of your skin. I know I didn't. And my skin felt amazing the next day.

Anyway, it's the best! Trust me.

I wanted to share a cold sore remedy, that is so simple.
All you need is ice. At the first sign of that dreaded tingle grab some ice, wrap in a plastic bag and knot it, hold on area for 1 hour, I like to wrap a cloth around the end to stop my fingers getting to cold. Sometimes this is enough to stop the cold sore in it's tracks and you won't even blister. Usually untreated I can expect a cold sore to stick around a month before it is completely gone. My recent outbreak was gone in a week after icing.

I have a half removed tatoo on my upper arm. I have stopped the process since I had got monsterous keliod scarring results. It looks terrible and itches like crazy. I've been to the dermotologist and he said that laser isnt going to work for me. Can anyone reccomend a remedy or CURE!!?? I was thinking about having a skin transplant but that is going to be super expensive.

Please give me any adice, I'd really apreciate it.

I'm interested in maybe trying to go with the whole no-poo baking soda thing, but I'm not sure how to do it. I read the other discussion on here but some real directions (and lots of testimonials) would be appreciated. Also, how long will it be before I can safely and confidently go out in public again? lol

Remedy for cracked, split finger nails?

Help!!! All my life I've had this problem with finger nails that crack and split, and I don't know what to do about it. They become worse when I work with my hands a lot, as is my current situation (working in a machine shop and doing handyman work.)

I've used Sally Hansen's "Advanced Hard as Nails" before, and while it works ok, it hasn't solved the problem entirely. I'm guessing that I'm missing some important minerals in my body, but don't really want to consume lots of calcium, because of the chance of over-calcification, which can lead to other problems.

So...anybody here with experience in this area that might be able to help me?

Thanks in advance...

loose tooth help

Is there a way to tighten a loose tooth?

so I've got 2 baby teeth that never had adult teeth to push them out. I bite down hard on 1 and now it's loose. It's in the front and I will need an expensive, and I hear painful, inplant.

Does anyone have any advise on how to keep it from getting looser, besides the obvious of not using it?

I'd like to delay the inevitable as long as possible.

I found this recipe in an old issue of Cooking Light magazine. The article was called "Bringing Pores Down to Size".

Mix 1 Tablespoon each of sugar, lemon juice, olive oil and honey. Wet your face then apply the scrub, rubbing gently in a circular motion. Remove with warm wet washcloth, then rinse.

A question about yeast infections

-my daughter and I seem to get them a lot. I always try to cure naturally and prevent but sometime I do go the prescription route. I am now pregnant with #2 and trying to avoid Diflucan at all costs (I have already tried the 3-day terconazole after a month of suffering and still they are there.) I eat lots of plain yogurt and take acidopholus and try to cut back on sugar etc. etc.

So I have been doing some more research about it and have come across a few confusing details.

#1 Yeast Infections are caused by an overly alkaline environment in the vagina.

#2 The doctor has always recommended baking soda baths which seems to contradict the above statement?

#3 Vinegar is good to bathe in but a good idea to avoid as food?

#4 Eating more alkalizing foods is recommended to people who suffer from chronic candida problems, but candida thrive in an alkaline environment?

#5 It is recommended to avoid dairy on an alkaline diet yet eating yogurt is supposed to heal a yeast infection?

I guess I am just a little confused. Maybe eating alkaline foods does not cause the environment down there to be alkaline. Maybe I am thinking too hard about this. I am just tired of dealing with these creatures and need some help!

I am pregnant so I am trying to stay away from herbs and essential oils (tea tree oils) and I also don't want to switch to some crazy diet. If anyone can clarify this that would be wonderful. If not maybe you could recommend a tribe where my question would be better directed.

Thanks

hot oil infusions and hot oil treatment for the hair

Hi, I never done a hot oil infusion before and I wanted to know if anyone has used marshmallow root powder for the infusion? and did you have good results? .I only have shea butter and coconut oil to use for the infusion.

I also want to make an oil infusion with amla powder one day when I get it.If you use the amla oil before did it make your hair nice?. When people make oil infusions with herbs do they really get the benefits from the herbs in the oil?

I have curly dry hair and I plan to do hot oil treatments once a week.I only did 2 hot oil treatments before and the first time I actually heated the oil before applying it to my hair and my scalb. My scalb was hot for a few hours so I been afraid to do hot oil treatments because the oil has too be hot to work (My puffy hair turn to defined curls which I like) .Would the hot oil treatment still work for people if they make the oil very warm not hot? Sorry I wrote so many questions LOL.Thanks=)

Hello,
Ok so my daughter is 10 yrs old with long hair. Sometimes she has some stinky hair. She's a kid, so I wash her hair with shampoo and conditioner. Good products, nice scent. Then after washing, I'm drying her hair and it still kinda smells. Kinda like a wet dog....you know, that wet hair smell.......
So what's going on? It's really weird and I hate the smell, especially since I know I just washed it! It just doesn't smell good. It's fine when it dries, the bad smell disappears and none of the product scent stays in her hair. Help! What's going on with her stinky hair and what can I do?

Works seriously. i have used it...

1/4 cup of coffee grinds, mix with face cleanser (i use apricot scrub for that double scrubbyness) its a bit messy so do this in shower....

work into face with circular motion, work at it for a few mins...rinse and fallow up by washing your face! thats right. when you use a scrub your pore can get clogged again with debris and dead skin rinsing and gently washing is pro!

use a toner everyday and night!

Love your beautiful skin!

I am feeling lost and desperate to figure this out.
I have an important female related issue that I really need some guidance about. I am 39 and feel really uninformed about my body even after having three children!
I thought I had a yeast infection with out itching or burning, clinic said yeast not elevated enough. I asked why there is so much discharge and why it so thick, very white and creamy more often than not. I have seen a Doctor three times this past year. Each time I was told there is no yeast infection and this is just “normal” for me. Well, I do not like it and I do not want this to be NORMAL! Over the past year, the heavy discharge has created more problems than I could imagine, the worst being that my boyfriend (now ex) felt it was some one else’s "stuff" in my unmentionables. Really, I do not agree with “Just live with it” philosophy the clinic gave me. I am self conscious enough!
I had a hysterectomy at the age of 31, leaving my ovaries in tact and does not require medications. But now I really want to find the “cure” for my so called “normal” female issue. Any Ideas?

I have a tendency to get really red, regardless of exposure to the sun.. It's kind of hard to explain, but the redness doesn't seem to come from irritation, but rather from within. It's pretty strange. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew of ways to stop skin from reddening, anything is much appreciated. Thanks and blessings!

hello everyone.. i'm hoping you guys might have some advice for me...
my body has been.. acting strangely for a while (about 2 months) and it's really freaking me out.
first off, my skin, which is normally pinkish/pale and combination/oily has become sallow and dry... i have noticeably yellowish patches around my mouth (upper lip mostly) and my eyes. i am also getting a lot more whiteheads and blackheads than normal for me.
in addition, i am having some strange mood swings. i'm normally a stable gal, and cry usually only when i'm physically hurt, but i find myself breaking down in tears for no reason. like it is not even triggered by a sad movie or anything.
i'm feeling slightly more lethargic than usual, too.. but i dont know if that is part of it. also, i havnt had a BM for around 4 days (do i need to describe my discomfort?i feel like an overfilled balloon...)
i'm 24, and i havnt really changed anything in the way i eat or how i take care of my skin.. so i really have no clue what is causing this.

has anybody had a similar experience?

if nothing else, anything ideas on what would make my face look less.. sickly.. would be fantastic

Tinea Versicolor

http://www.medicinenet.com/tinea_versicolor/article.htm

Started with one spot size of a quarter on my left shoulder pec. Stayed that way for a few years. The last 3 years that spot has disappeared but now I have a multitude of spots, the size of an eraser head, in clusters . They are mostly on left shoulder blade down to middle of back.
Now a few are popping up on my stomach.
Was told it was a fungus no known cure or reason for it. They are itchy at times.
Was given the one pill anti - fungus treatment to no avail. They tanned over in the summer but once I faded they came back.
I've read several different home remedies: apple cidar vinegar, Over-the-counter (OTC) remedies include clotrimazole and miconazole. These should be applied twice a day for 10-14 days but come in small tubes and are hard to apply to large areas. Another OTC option is selenium sulfide shampoo 1% (Selsun Blue) or 1% ketoconazole shampoo. Some doctors recommend applying these for 15 minutes twice a week for two to four weeks.

Need something that will work!

What to mix mineral make up with?

I'm loving my mineral make up, however I have one problem. I've got a black loose powder eye shadow to use as eye liner, however when I mix it with water to apply it, it dries out and sheds all over my cheeks (not pretty!). I tried oil, but it never dried and just slid over my face (even less pretty!)

Can anyone suggest what I could mix the powder with to make it into a reliable eyeliner? Beeswax perhaps?

Thanks!

Has anyone tried changing their skin from within? I did a brief (1 day) liver cleanse with bieler broth a few weeks ago and noticed my skin cleared right up! Also, I've been taking aloe internally with good results, although not as immediate. My skin just feels "healthier", but I can't really explain how, just kind of how it feels living in it. Has anyone else had experiences of this kind or have any tips or ideas? Blessings!

Glycerin and Preservatives

Hi All!

I have been looking and looking and can't seem to find a definitive answer.
I am making a body butter and body scrub using glycerin. Do I need a preservative?
Butter: oils, butters, EO's

Scrub: oils, salt/sugar. Eo's

I'm going the all natural route, so I would use grapefruit seed extract if I have to or skip the glycerin all together.

TIA!

Stinky Vinegar, Smelly Aloe

I just joined this Tribe and I LOVE it! Thanks Captain!

I was reading through the post "acne at 26 - ugh!" by Mella. I have a very similar problem (at 33) and I found a lot of useful info there. Thanks everyone, I plan to try them all.

Here's my questions; Apple cider vinegar seems to be a miracle cure for a lot of skin problems. I used it on a condition on my son several years ago and it cleared right up. I've been using it for the past three days on my face (since I read the post) and I'm already seeing results. But... But... it smells BAD! Especially on the face. Is there anything you can do to apple cider vinegar to improve the smell without compromising it's healing properties?

And, Aloe. I have a big, beautiful, healthy aloe plant growing right outside my backdoor. We run to it whenever we get a burn, but I would never dream of using it as part of my regular skin care because it smells really strongly of Body Odor. Ick. I know you can buy aloe products that don't smell like this, but is there anything you can do to fresh aloe to remove the smell, again without losing the healing properties?

Dry red rash under lip... :(

So starting in November I have had this annoying red patch underneath and to the side of my bottom lip. It gets flaky and I have never experienced anything like it. I have been hoping that it would go away and I have been trying different remedies from nourishing oils to tea tree and even a bit of hydro cortisone....I even thought switching over to different natural skin care products would help

I would love some advice. It looks like dermatitis. Thanks!

Lets share ideas of a mask that is very nourishing, hydrating, and regenerating...

I am thinking some kind of fruit like

avocado or banana
yogurt?
or even coconut milk as the base???

what else?

rose water?

...I have just tried something reeeeeallly good!
In a jar, mix a big spoon of honey with juice of one lemon, some cider vinegar and fill it up full with some good oil or a mix of oils, whichever you like, I used olive, rapeseed and sesame oil as a base. Mix it well then add lots of essential oils (I like lemongrass and mandarin or lime and peppermint for a refreshing shower in the morning!) and if you like some aloe or neem extract. You can use it in the shower or just on your face, rub it in with a luffa or a cloth and rinse it. It lasts for a long time and it's sooo great! It works for shaving your legs too... ;-)

Winter-dry hands

Hello all! I just joined your group and I'm loving what I see! I'm new to the natural approach towards body care, so bear with me!

Every winter I find that my hands get dryer and dryer. They have been cracking all this year and it doesn't matter what I use on them. I'm at a total loss! I've tried expensive and inexpensive lotions and scrubs to get them healthy... One thing I found that works fairly well (but not great) is a peppermint foot scrub. It's UBER cheap and seems to help, but doesn't cure. I have a handmade lotion here that is helping quite a bit, but still not the smooth hands I want.

Any thoughts? I've tried everything from beeswax melted over my hands to lard (ew) and even petroleum jelly (double ew). I'm pretty desperate for help with this, but nothing works (or I just flat out refuse to try it again, such as with lard and the p. jelly). Thanks in advance!

I wanted to know if the rumor is true that oatmeal soap bars are good for your face and body? Supposely these have no chemicals and are all natural. If so, where do you get yours, what is the name of it, what does it do for you, etc. THANKS!

So I am 5 months post partum and an enjoying my little boy immensely... my hair hadn't fallen out through out my pregnancy and was actually thick for the first time ever!
Buuuuut... now it's falling out all over the place... I was expecting this and while is stinks it's not the major problem... my scalp is now very dry and itchy, I have a sudden case of dandruff which I haven't had in years, all the while my hair is as oily as ever... HELP! I have patches of scalp that are red from scratching, and am doing my best to stop the itching... should I use some oils to soak my scalp? I don't use products with SLS as it is, and my hair tends to be on the oily side anyway... I only wash every other day tho it's pretty noticeable about 12 hours after I have washed... I'm also a Massage Therapist and so my hands get oily and it gets into my hair as I'm having to get hair out of my eyes etc... it's a tiresome cycle...
any suggestions for what would help best?
Thanks!!

I know this is not a beauty remedy querie (although it makes me frown a lot!!). But since my mother died 8 years ago I have been suffering from these.I gave up smoking(although still addicted to nicotene gum) .My sister has the same, if not worse, with ulcers lasting up to four weeks! We have had blood tests and all the other test relating to this, my sister is currently being tested for 'Betchet's syndrome' which killed my father at the age of 31. The symptoms can be releived with steroids, or worse: THALIDAMYDE!!!! Obviously I am worried as she has epilepsy, and neither of us want this treatment!
I have tried vitamin B,liquorice, and most of the 'numbing' gels, which offer temporary relief..... anything would be helpful at this stage!

If you are going to commit to a flacon at $150 you'll want to smell at least three perfumes

I would love to turn it into some nourishing, skin-softening baths that can either be used personally or even given as gifts.

I have made my own lotion using 1/2 cup water, 1/2 cup oil, and 1 tablespoon liquid lecithin. I use it on my baby and myself. My baby has eczema however, and I wanted to know if there were any particular herbs I could infuse into the water to help him with this. I will sometimes put oat flour into the water and make my own oatmeal lotion and it seems to help--but not enough.

I'm interested in making my own cleaners.. i know these aren't beauty remedies, but maybe you have some ideas... I'm pregnant and very wary of what cleaners I use. I make a spray of rubbing alcohol, water, lemon zest (infused, then strained), tea tree oil, and lemon oil... I think it works, and I use it for a multipurpose cleanser... I know that vinegar is good, but I don't know many mixes for it.. Are there other things that I can make on my own?? I love playing scientist! :) What other essential oils have good antibacterial properties? Any advice is welcome, thanks!

Hi!
I'm making homemade scrubs for my family this christmas and I have no idea how to give it to them.
My scrub has brown sugar, EO's, honey, and olive oil in it...
I was wondering if these ingredients could stay together for a week and not go bad.
I don't have any glass containers...
all I have is wax paper, ceran wrap, and the other usual food wrappers.
I am testing the wax paper right now and so far the oil is separating from the scrub..
Can anyone help me with this?

(and btw, the scrub is magical!!!)

thanks, -T

Just wanted to share this easy lip care recipe, cause I've been using it for years, and it's very effective. Leaves the lips very soft and elastic, and is also said to prevent/reduce wrinkles.

Maybe some of you already know it..

You just rub the entire surface of your lips with a softer tooth brush in slow circular motions until you feel the blood circulating and your lips itching.
Then cover them up with a mixture made of a few drops of olive oil and a few drops of sweet almond oil, and leave it on for 15 minutes. Twice a week should do it.

growing out hair

wondering if anyone has any secrets - how to keep
hair extra strong and anything that helps the process
along...

my hair is growing normally, but i would love to speed it up
a bit...I know eating well is the most important, which I do,
but if anyone knows of specific foods that really help -
salmon I know is a great one, and avocados...but avocados
turn my stomach (I think the oil is very strong or something.)

just wondering if there's a secret ingredient...been a long time
since I wore my hair long. thank you in advance for any
comments.

My boyfriend has all of a sudden in the last 6 months randomly started getting them and all the doctors say is to sit in epsom salt baths three times a day. No creams or pills will help apparently, so here I am. Anyone ever have these before or know someone that did? Any home remedies? Thanks!!

Salt scrubs - yummy!

I just made a super salt scrub, and I am so happy!

Trader Joe's had one with mostly sunflower oil, and the price was OK, but I wanted a better oil, as well as something more therapeutic.

So I bought some grapeseed oil and sea salt (also at TJ's) and just made a smallish batch as an experiment: Sea salt, grapeseed oil, arnica extract, jojoba oil, and essential oils of keffir lime, lemon grass, tangerine, and grapefruit.

I used it as a "dry" scrub before showering, and then used a mild bath gel to take some of the oil off.

I had been sort of tired and achey from the day, but not after my salt scrub and shower - I was super invigorated! :D

I could have just used the oils, but I really think the salt was great for keeping track of the rub, and invigorating in itself :P

Yum!

Recipe: Citrus-Mint Refresher Spritz Recipe

Cooling and deodorizing spray

Ingredients:

1/4 c distilled water
1/4 c witch hazel
3 drops lemon or orange f.o.
2 drops grapefruit f.o.
2 drops wintergreen f.o.
2 drops peppermint e.o.

Instructions:

With cooling mint oils and an exhilarating fragrance, this spray is great for a quick pick me up in the middle of a long, hot day. Simply shake all ingredients in a bottle until well mixed, and spritz on desired areas. This spray can be stored at room temperature but is even more refreshing when kept in the refrigerator

the areas right between my brows, tip of my nose, and forehead are super dry and flakey, but every other part of my face is excessively oily. What is with this? I've always had just oily skin, so I have no idea how to deal with this. Anyone else have this or know of a good remedy?

Skin tightening?

I'm looking for something to tighten up loose skin on my body. I lost weight and had a baby 18 months ago...so I have belly skin that won't tighten up regardless of exercise and diet. Using a lotion with CoQ10 long term has worked really well, but for many months it seems to just keep it where it is instead of tightening further. I also use various salt scrubs in the shower.

Any suggestions?

Go Bananas

I happened to be online checking my hotmail account
and usually I ignore the little newsy links
because they usually seem real dumb or irrelevant to me
but one caught my eye

Bananas are a good wrinkle reducer, it said
so I was like
HMMMM
that looks interesting
so I clicked and read more
and I did more searching on the Web and found out that banana is good for the hair too

so I thought
OK

I will try it

and it's real simple.
Just take a banana, the riper the better
like a banana bread ready banana is the best
and you just mush it into a paste
and then spread it over your fair and hair
and then you let it just sit for a half hour

(it feels kinda funny, but you will get used to it)

then, you just get the in shower
rinse it off
and wash your hair like normal

I have done this only 3 times in the space of like maybe 1.75 weeks, doing it about every four days or so

and I don't even wear foundation anymore because my skin looks GREAT
fine lines gone
looking fresh as a daisy
people even complimented me on my skin

and my hair looks great too
and I have baby fine hair that is bleached so it's not hard for it to look damaged or just blah and not good
but the bananas have made it look pretty fly!

so I say

GO BANANAS

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yay soap!

just wanted to take a second to gush about some of the soap a friend and i made this weekend for christmas presents... it was our first time doing it, and it smells so yummy!

she's very much into crystals and aromatherepy... so we used essential oils, and many of the soaps have a crystal in the center for the added energy... we used a glycerin suspension base.

"happy" - lavander and lemongrass with a carnelian
"peace" - palmarosa and myrh with a angelite
"clense" - sweet orange and frankencense with a citrine (with an apricot scrub additive)

we also did a "man-bar" for the boys on our list... fennel and lime (no crystal though)

we also did bath salts for everything (except the "man-bar"), which were really cool... want to also do candles and bath bombs... yay!

just wanted to share with people who would understand :-)

Hi, I never bought marshmallow root powder for my hair before so I wanted to know if the consistency of the marshmallow root powder mix with water becomes a thick paste or just a normal paste?.I want to be able to apply the mixture to my hair so that it won't drip.I want my hair to look like henna has been applyed or bentonite powder has been apply to my hair.I have 3C curly dry hair and I heard that marshmallow root powder gives bentonite powder slip and it conditions the hair.I also wish to buy bentonite clay also. How did you like these powders for your hair or skin?

I use oil on my face, my skin is so dry. I am using apricot kernel oil, but want to make a blend that is finer/lighter (tho I don't have a problem with apricot oil being heavy.) Bobby Brown is marketing a face oil, that is really light, but it is scented and I dont' trust the purity of their ingrediants.

Ay suggestions for an oil blend?

I am very concerned about Codex and the implications it can have on our Canadians rights and freedom. Under Codex all nutrients and herbs are labelled as toxic and will be illegal.(as illegal as heroin) Canada is required to comply with codex by DEC.31 2009 or the WTO which implements Codex will put up trade sanctions against Canada. We must not let Codex get implemented. We need to start sending letters and getting petitions signed NOW to stop Codexs standards from being implemented here in Canada and the rest of the world. I have added a Video which outlines what we must do to stop codex. Please Help and get the Canadian public to be aware of Codex and the horrible implications it could have on our lives.

http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=-5266884912495233634&q=health&total=122451&start=0num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=0

Please watch this video it will inform you of exactly what Codex is and what it is trying to do and how we can fight it.

Again, we must stop this now before it's to late and our human rights to take nutritional supplements and herbs is taken away and our right to hormone free meat and milk and organic vegetables is taken away.

I need your help all Canadians need your help. Inform the Canadian Public about Codex and get the petitions started to stop them.

Sincerely,
Brittany

rancid oil disaster!

I had a bottle of sweet almond oil, that not only went rancid - it LEAKED in my dresser drawer where I keep my supplies. It soaked into the pressed board bottom of the drawer, and now every time I open the drawer instead of sweet herbal scents wafting out, I get hit with dusty, nasty rancidity.
It's not a particularly valuable chest of drawers, but it is the perfect size for my bedroom, and I'd hate to throw it away, I'm sick of leaving it as is, and can't really afford to buy a new one.
Any ideas? I've considered soaking it in a vinegar soap solution - cuz it's not only the smell but the oil in the board. But I'm afraid that will warp the wood and then it won't fit back in the dresser.
*sigh*

I just wanted to start a list to share anyone & everyone's favorite online sources for buying ingredients & products.

here are two of mine

www.vitacost.com
...this is where I buy a ton of natural skin care stuff at deep discount

http://www.botanical.com/products/productindex.html
I just discovered this one for raw ingredients, & also natural products at really great prices

www.edenbotanicals.com
...where I get a lot of my essential oils - these people are very knowledgeable, their proces are great, and they always include free samples of essential oils with every order :)

Please share your own finds!

Coconut oil - what do you use?

Hey haven't been on Tribe for a while because of studying commitments, so I've just caught up with some of the posts. :)

My question is...those that use coconut oil, is yours scented like coconut (I think this is the raw, unbleached form) or does it have no scent (fractionated?) Which do you think is best, for instance, might there be impurities in either? I currently use the one with no natural scent, but I guess this might have less properties than the oil in its raw form. Reason being, I like to use it on hair and skin, but actually I quite like the coconutty scent so I'm considering buying the raw one! Thankyou

How to get rid of skin fungus?

I have a skin fungus that I got in Fiji over 5 years ago. When I get tan, it looks white and blotchy. When I am not tan, it is dark and blotchy! It comes and goes and it moves to different places on my body all the time! The doc told me to use Selson Blue. That shit stinks and makes me feel like I'm allergic to it. I've heard that tea tree oil works for fungus, and I use it a lot and it works to an extent, but this fungus is resilliant and tough!
Anyone have any suggestions for skin fungus? I've already been down the road of "maybe it's candida," and I don't really want to be thinking about that right now. So the suggestions I'm seeking are for skin only fungus removal, not internal cleanses. Thanks!

Okay, so this is more about washing the clothes on my body rather than my body itself, but I wondered if anyone had any experience with this. I've been trying to cut the more harsh cleansers not only out of my showering rituals, but out of my house all together. But biodegradable laundry detergent is so expensive? Does anyone have homemade recipes? I'm allergic to perfumes in most detergents, so I'd prefer one gentle on the scents, but I'd love to hear anyone's thoughts! Any ideas?

Burdock & Rosacia

Hi Ladies-
I came across a note scribbled on the bottom of some random notebook of mine that read "Burdock = rosacia, digestion."

I am getting bad rosacia flare ups, though I know they are diet related mostly. I have gotten very cautious and clean with what I eat this past year. But common triggers for me are : coffee, dairy, corn, pasta, garlic....................................

I got a bottle from the health store of 540mg capsules. They recommend 2 caps. 3xday. Wow. That's alot.
How much does anyone recommend to see any positive benefit.?
Also, is burdock good for digestion and rosacia? I read it is a good blood cleanser, and I have been wondering about my liver "energy" lately.

Thx, Karen

Dry Hair

Okay everyone lets see what advice is lurking out here for this.

I have dry hair. Not quite straw but pretty crunchy.

I do not blowdry, curl or otherwise put anything hot near my head except for shower water. I use a shampoo and conditioner (natures gate). And it really doesnt seem to help. When I was younger I used to have real bad dandruff so I got in the habit of washing daily.

But back then It never bothered my hair much as it was really greasy. I also brush in a little rosemary oil daily allways have.

But still it doesnt seem to be enough.

The ONLY change has been dietary. I used to eat lots of red meat and dairy. Anymore however I stick to fish chicken and only have yogurt for my dairy. This is because I wanted to loose some weight and get in better shape. Im pretty sure this is the cause of my problem. Trouble is it's not like I want to go back and eat that way. In all honestly I've lost my taste for them anyway.

SO then.. the question is. What can I do to fix this? Is there a food I should be eating more of im overlooking? Something else I should be doing to my hair externaly? Ditching the shampoo all together and finding somehting else?

Hair loss fix....no kidding!

Ok divas....has anyone EVER heard of this before? I am 52 years old have been losing my hair for years and have tried everything, EVERYTHING, including a round of Rogaine for Women which, although it worked, is just nasty stuff. I have been reading up on inflamation in my body and foods that set it off and decided to just TRY not eating sugar to see what would happen. And guess what, my hair QUIT falling out. No kidding. I used to have a freakin' horses mane of hair and so I had plenty to loose before my scalp started to show. Pre-suagr consumption I would have my bathroom floor covered in hair and the shower would be full of hair every day. Now I have maybe 10 hairs int the shower and another 10 when I blow dry and get ready for work. No sugar. Unbelievable. I only wish I had known years ago. Now I'm going to wait to see if ilittle new hairs start to grow back and I'll keep all of you posted. BTW, my joints, particularly in my feet, have also quit hurting.

WHY DIDN'T SOMEONE TELL ME THIS YEARS AGO?????

Bleaching my skin

I am one of those pretty rare breeds that actually find pale skin appealing, and in this past summer I had my first direct contact with sun rays in about 4 years...which really screwed up my skin, despite having used tons of SPF body lotion.

Not only has my skin gotten a bit darker than I would've liked it, but it's also lost its softness, and all the body scrubbing and vitamin E lotion-ing in the past month haven't helped it get back to its old self, and I'm getting kinda impatient.

I had bought 2 packs of black henna to dye my hair before the beginning of autumn, and now...I'm friggin' brown! The problem is I'm also brown-eyed...I had this goth image in my head about locks of raven black hair falling on ivory shoulders, only to realize that black hair on brown skin and brown eyes would make me look...well, NOT goth, to say the least.
Not to mention the fact that my wardrobe is 99% focused on white skin fashion!

Anyway, to get to the point, does anyone know of any natural skin-bleaching recipe? I've heard some rumors about using lemon juice, but haven't found any real recipe. I mean, what am I supposed to do? Cut a lemon in half and rub it all over my body?

Pleeease, HELP!
